Go to the store and pick up a package of Mrs. Grass' Vegetable Soup Starter (or other veggie beef soup starter), a pound of stew beef, a package of frozen soup veggies, a can of crushed tomatoes, and a loaf of frozen bread dough.
Cut the stew beef into smaller pieces, and brown lightly. Add the soup starter, the recommended amount of water, the soup veggies, and the crushed tomatoes. Simmer until the beef is tender, and season to taste with salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, a tablespoon of Worchestershire sauce, and a little sugar.
Fix the loaf of bread according to the package instructions and have it hot out of the oven when your guy gets home. When your husband walks through the door and smells the fresh bread and hot soup, he's gonna think he's died and gone to heaven!

My vote goes to potroast! If its early enough, you can put your roast in the slowcooker and let it cook all day, however, if its not, then you can use your oven. Here's how I do mine:
1 Chuck Roast or Pot Roast
1 1/2 lbs. potatoes
1 bag baby carrots
1 yellow onion, in rings
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 T fresh Thyme ( or 1 1/2 tsp dried)
1 T kosher salt
1 tsp fresh ground pepper
2 T Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
In small bowl, mix garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and barbecue sauce. Place in large plastic bag and add your roast. Let marinate for 2 - 4 hours. Place sliced onion on bottom of baking dish. Peel potatoes and cut into bite sized pieces. Toss with kosher salt and pepper. Place meat on top of onions and spread potatoes and carrots around meat. Sprinkle with thyme. Add 1/2 cup chicken broth or white wine to bottom of the pan and cover. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours (depending on size of roast) or until meat is tender and pulls apart easily with a fork. Serve with hot french bread and a green salad.

Tortilla Soup
2 chicken breasts halves, boned, skinned and cubed
1 onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
3 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
4 cups chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 mild green chile, seeded and chopped
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 corn tortillas, halved and cut into 1/4 inch strips
shredded monterey jack cheese, a little for each serving
Combine chicken breasts, onion, garlic, tomatoes, broth, salt, pepper and green chile in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low 7-8 hours. Heat oil in large skillet and add tortilla strips. Cook, stirring over medium heat until crisp; drain on paper towels. Add to soup just before serving. Serve on top with cheese.
Corn Bread
1 egg
1 1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 cups self-rising corn meal mix
1 8 ounce can cream-style corn
1 cup sour cream
Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Grease a 9 inch iron pan. In a large bowl, beat egg. Add milk, oil, sour cream, cream corn and cornmeal and mix; stir until cornmeal is just dampened. Pour batter into greased pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

My favorite comfort food is chicken and dumplings. I looked for an easy recipe for you! Good luck. Sweet of you to think of making something warm and comforting for your hubby. Make sure he appreciates it! :)
EASY CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS
2 breasts (boiled and cut in small pieces)
1 can cream of chicken soup
2/3 can of water
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
DUMPLINGS:
1 heaping tbsp., butter flavored Crisco
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
Flour
Mix first 5 ingredients in a dish until mixed well. Next, put 4 or 5 cups of sifted flour in a bowl. Make a well in middle of flour. Put in Crisco and buttermilk. Mix together. Use only enough flour to make a ball. (About size of a grapefruit.) Flour hands. Get a small ball of dough, flatten in between hands. Put these strips on top of chicken mixture until all covered. Bake in oven on 400 degrees until dough is brown. Lift up dumplings to make sure dough is done on underside, too.

Maybe some clam chowder or cream of crab soup. Or maybe some beefstew. That always warms me up.
Cooks.com has recipes for everything you could ever imagine. Just type it in. Or you can pick through categories and find something there.

I genuinely love this....i substitute into thinking of the Maurice Chevalier music as I examine it (i'm not sufficiently previous to hold it to recommendations from the action picture....yet i'm acquainted with the music)....and the final 2 lines of this poem genuinely clinch it for me. From my very own adventure, on the activities while i'm "domicile on my own" and looking out after myself, lots of frozen food *are* eaten with the aid of me. perhaps not somewhat every day....yet it is nearer to the certainty than I on occasion elect to confess. unhappy to assert, i substitute into particularly positioned off cooking with the aid of my domicile Economics instructions in college as a teenager....and 15 years on, i'm nevertheless not solid in the kitchen. If I ought to "fend for myself", my favored selection is to shove a frozen meal in the microwave....or bypass out to a eating place. as quickly as back....i theory this substitute into extremely clever....and that i enjoyed it!
