The other night I dreamed the internet was a series of spider webs. Two enormous arachnids controlled this network of webs. One was Bill Gates, the other was that Dick Cheney. They rubbed their hairy legs together and sang, “Oh what a tangled web we weave.” Then they ate us all. I woke up feeling like something terrible was about to happen. Could it be prophetic in some way?

What an interesting dream! I'll do my best to help interpret it. To understand dreams, you have to know that certain objects are really symbolic of feelings, people, etc.
The internet can often symbolize a need to communicate. Webs represent your social network and can also symbolize feelings of being trapped and unable to express yourself within that network of friends/acquaintences/co-workers, etc. Spiders can represent feelings of being an outsider while at the same time signifies a controlling force...hence the giant arachnids. Bill Gates and Dick Cheney are two giant forces..simply recognizable as opponents, but powerful ones. This is your subconscious mind telling you that you need to make a decision or voice your opinion to those you feel are "above" you. Being eaten, again, is symbolic of feeling overwhelmed and underappreciated.
From what it sounds like, this dream is your subconscious working out a work or some other social situation where you don't feel you're being heard. There is something you want to say/do/etc, but thus far haven't been able to as others have been the ones in control. It sounds like your mind is saying make a choice to stand and be heard or be overpowered once more.
Please know, it's difficult to do these based on limited information. Often times, dreams are much better understood when it is known what is going on in one's life at the time as the mind is usually trying to sort out those events. At any rate, I hope I've helped.

It very well could be. Spiders represent spirits which work deceit and lies. God could be showing you that there are spirits working behind Bill Gates and Dick Cheney because in the last days men will use information to control and decieve just like spiders do. They weave a web to constrict and control your movements. Also, they weave a web and put it in a place which it's unsuspecting victims do not notice it. Therefore, they walk blindly into it, just like the internet.
