It is pretty difficult to adopt a baby in your situation. If you want to adopt domestically, very few birth parents are going to choose an unmarried couple to parent their child. If you want to adopt internationally, many countries do not permit unmarried couples to adopt. One of you could adopt from Vietnam as a single parent, but you'd have to qualify on your own. If you are willing to accept an older or special needs child, the foster care system might be the answer.

You would be better off adopting as a single parent. Most adoption agencies including county require you to be married at least more than 2 years. If you have lived together for 8 years they might make an exception. The best thing to do is get on the phone and start making calls.

It's best to get married first, then family next. You can adopt kids through your state, and the child will get medicaid, and an adoption supplement, until they turn 18. Private adoptions are very expensive, but another alternative nonetheless.

I adopted 2 children through our state agency. I am not married. they asked me about relationships, but I wasn't dating or engaged, so they let me adopt. I don't know if your marital status would be a factor. being together that long makes you common law husband and wife, so maybe not. I did the paperwork myself with their help and only had to pay to file the paperwork with the clerk of court, about $35 each time. contact your children and family services and ask them. good luck! there are lots of kids that need good homes.

In most states, two unmarried people cannot adopt together. You would either have to have one person be the designated 'adoptor' or make your relationship legal.
