Well Jim Santoio about summed it up, its because of colonialism. When the Europeans colonized Africa they drew up boundaries everywhere forcing different ethnic groups who have a history of aggresion towards each other to live within the same boundaries which obviously isn't going to work. Say if you put Australia and Indonesia as one country, Australia is a mainly Christian Anglo-Saxon country while Indonesia is a mainly Asian Muslim country. If you put these two countries together obviously there would be conflict. who should be Prime Minister? Christian or Muslim? Anglo Saxan or Asian?
and u can understand why the different ethnic groups in africa are fighting with each other and this is why alot of the times there leaders are so blood thirsty and corrupt. You may ask why dont they just give different ethnic groups there own land to develop there own country? Well look at Israel and Palestine. Israel obviously doesn't want to give up any land as they would have to give up resources and other things needed to make a country prosperous. Basically colonization has destroyed Africa and this will be extremely hard for Africa to recover from. But i guess it all just comes down too "Why cant we just get all along?".........Sorry if I didn't make it too clear i was just piecing together random idea on your question and its 2:30 AM here in Australia lol well i hope i helped anyway

African leaders are not the only corrupt leaders. Almost every continent has its brutal currupt leadersThere are some honest African leaders. Africa is not some monolithic culture.
The years and years of brutal colonial rule left great vacuums of power that have yet to be filled. Much like the situation in Iraq, you have too many different cultural groups vying for power in what are largely European drawn boundaries. Once a culture of corruption enters a country it is very difficult to eradicate. And the corruption goes back to the very brutal Western colonization period

There is no political stability in most African countries. Leaders tend to impose their rule through the barrels of guns and they are corrupt because they control the government officials.
