Okay, so I need to stop drinking because whenever I do, I turn into a total jackass and regret it and feel like crap for the next day.

I have great friends, but all of them drink almost nightly. I don't want to lose these people because I love my friends, but I need to not drink anymore.

How can I keep these friends and not drink. I've tried going out with them and not drinking but I'm an alcoholic and its really easy for me to forget that I shouldn't drink.

Get new friends, like friends of Bill W. Go to an AA meeting. Then watch your drinking buddies be the drunken jackasses, you can be their designated driver.

the first step is to realize and admit that you have a drinking problem in which you have done so here to all of us,, i think the only way your going to stop drinking is to simply not be around them when they are drinking and it is also mind over matter,, i used to be drinker and have quit the drinking,, my first step was to eliminate the enablers who was my very close friends whom drank alot, it is a rough thing to do but i had to do it,, then i put my mind to work and eventually stopped altogether,, some people need more help such as therapy to help handle the difficultys of drinking, i think you can do it my friend,, if you still want to be with your friends then only hang out witjh them when they are not drinking,,, just remember that alcohol will bring you down and you will hit bottom and lose all you have to this disease,

Try a few AA meetings. AA is listed in the whitepages of the phonebook. Take the money that you are saving and put it in a jar. If at the end of say three months you decide that AA is not for you look at the money you have to have a party and have your misery return. AA is not for people who need it. It is for people who want it.
Good luck and remember it took time to get to where your drinking was a problem . It'll take time to get better.

you can always slow down when you drink, also try light beer or something that wont get you drunk as fast. Remember that as everyone gets older, they will become more and more busy and this probably wont go on that long. Finding a nice spouse/soulmate is also a nice way to help you stay out of trouble.

If they are true friends they will respect your decision. Can you find other common interests with them like sport or movies?
