I would like to go back to XP after being very dissatisfied with Vista. Since installing it, my computer is slow to open programs, slow to turn on and off, I cannot use Word or Excel 2003, & other various problems that are extremely frustrating. How nasty of Microsoft to force people to spend even more $$
on Office 2007 after buying Vista.
So, I have decided that I'd like to go back to XP. When I got Vista I had to make recovery disks. If I use those will it bring me back to XP, or will it just reinstall Vista? If not, how can I do it? I thought I heard of a way to bring your computer back to a certain date. Would it being back my XP if I brought my computer back to the day before I installed Vista? If there is no way to reinstall XP, how can I make my computer open programs more quickly and make my computing less frustrating?
What's so "WOW" about Vista anyway? I haven't seen any improvements over XP. Are lots of others disappointed with Vista as well?
Thanks

Depends if the recovery discs were made before you installed vista, if they were, then yo may be able to recover XP.
You cannot use system restore after the installation of a new operating system, I'm sorry.
Try using MSCONFIG to make it so less programs turn on with the computer.

That's all I got :) Sorry.

I run Vista on two computers with very little trouble and almost no compatibility problems. I use an older version of Office, (Office 2K), and it runs just fine. But if you really wish to go back to XP you must first format your hard drive so that there is no evidence of Vista on it. You won't be able to use your XP disk to do this because XP will see a newer os on your drive and will not load. I would use an old Win98 boot disk to remove the non-dos partition, and then you should be able to reload XP. I really don't know why you would want to do this. Vista is a very good operating system. It just needs a bit of tweaking. XP presented many more compatibility issues when it replaced 98 then Vista does.
Did you run the Vista adviser before you loaded the program. Dose your computer have enough resources to run Vista? It requires a gig of ram and that's a minimum, and a fairly fast cpu with a clock speed of 2 gigs or so. Also you must learn to control the security software that Vista comes with. I have turned off "User Controls", and that helps allot. User controls are meant to keep others from being able to change settings on "your" compter, but can be a bit frustrating what with all the the popup "permissions" windows and all. Why don't you work with Vista a little more before you go backwards to XP.

First off, NO, the recovery disks you made with Vista are for Vista only. You can most certainly go back to XP, with a format of your hard drive, and fresh install of XP, however you have to have a licensed copy of XP, and a Product Key for XP, which you should have if you upgraded. Restoring to a day before you installed Vista will not work, sorry. And yes, MANY others are disappointed with Vista as well, and MANY wouldn't take anything for their Vista!! Go figure.

I totally hear you! This is a typical complaint with Vista. However, if your recovery discs were created with Vista installed on it already, you will only recover Vista. But if you made those recovery discs with XP installed, you won't be able to roll back to XP because the recovery discs look for certain components of Windows to re-install everything. So when you use the recovery discs, it will see you have Vista and not be able to roll you back to a whole other operating system.
If you want XP, you just need to obtain your install disc for it. Or you can try this awesome OS... Don't be scared of Linux. http://www.gentoo.org

You need to format the hard drive clean then do complete installation of xp if you have the installation disk and you need to activate xp in order to work more than thirty days, that is the limit xp will work if you do not activate it.

Office 2k7 is amazing. and so is vista, I really don't know why you would want to go back to xp? it does the same thing that vista does, it's all image people. There really isn't a huge change. if you want to look like vista, take the time to go through some of the personal settings and set it to look and act like XP instead of refomatting and losing everything you put in. BUT if you must, just restart the computer with XP in there, and reformat. and start over. =)
