Because on the net, you can be yourself without being in person. You can be a pervert, and find a pervert, or a nerd and find a nerd. And everything in between. Problem is, is the person your talking to on line really like they say, or having fun at your expense.
I dated a girl on line, met, lived with for 2 years. She is now 2 states away, with my son. Turns out all she wanted was a baby and a father that was not near enough to interfere with "her life".

I think a lot of people spend too much time focusing on their careers and they get tired of the bar/club scene so they turn to the internet as a way of trying to find a match instead of trying to find more free time for an activity or hobby that will help them meet new people.

For starters peole are getting lazier every day. The main reason is from behind a computer screen you can't feel the pain or embarrasment of getting rejected in front of your friends people need to grow up and realize that every gets shotdown here and there. I've been shot down, you accept it down another shot and move on.

because the alternatives are worse --- plus you can meet people from further afield --- with travel so available it is possible to meet and fall in love with someone from half way around the world --- i did and we are honest with each other
