Future Of Forestry Uses it in their concerts... you move your hands up and down and side to side to change the pitch and the volume of the noise. I just cannot remember the name of it.

The above poster is correct, the instrument to which you are referring is a theremin.

It is played by the motion (position, actually) of both hands in order to produce a sound. One hand controls the pitch (frequency) and the other hand controls the volume.

The theremin gained popularity throughout the sixties and seventies (although it has been used since the early 1900's) thanks to bands such as Led Zeppelin and the Beach Boys as well as sci-fi TV shows such as Star Trek.
