Quotations from Wiki :

"God is dead: of his pity for man hath God died."
"The God who beheld everything, AND ALSO MAN: that God had to die! Man cannot ENDURE it that such a witness should live." [6]
"God is dead. Let us not understand by this that he does not exist or even that he no longer exists. He is dead. He spoke to us and is silent. We no longer have anything but his cadaver. Perhaps he slipped out of the world, somewhere else like the soul of a dead man. Perhaps he was only a dream ... God is dead." Jean-Paul Sartre
A popular joke, often found graffitied on walls, particularly in university towns: Nietzsche, "God is dead"; God, "Nietzsche is dead." Someone might append to this, "A good exchange." Someone who has read Nietzsche might also add a quote from Ecce Homo, "Some men are born posthumously." Another variant on this joke: "God is dead, Nietzsche is dead, and I'm not feeling too good myself."

Thanks

Actually, I get that these are all far more than jokes. It seems to me they are commiserations or laments on the hoplessness of mortality. And to me these lamentations are unbearably sad because they are the true confessions of a person crying out as if to say, "what is the point then of life? if all die?!?"
Sartre and Nietszche are now dead, and I recognize the humor in the response. But, now that they are dead, they now have the wonderful benefit of knowing the truth about what death is like. They have found out whether or not God exists and they know now that He does and that He was far, far more benevolent and merciful and loving and good then their own hearts could ever believe, and they now live with Him in heaven. I know a lot of people would say that these men died and went to hell for their unbelief, but God is not a monster. He doesn't hate us for our unbelief. He rescues us from our heart's every failing! How wonderful it must've been that the God that Nietszche and Sartre doubted is the same God that received them into heaven and 'forgave' their unbelief! "The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and full of great mercy" (Psalm 145:8)
Lastly, I am grateful to know that God didn't die that day on the cross. His SON died. The saddest part of these laments is that they think that God could die. But of course He can't! That's part of His nature: He's immortal! 1 Timothy 1:17 "Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever." And Sartre and Nietszche now know this is true!
As to some men being born posthumously, it's true! Some people never "live" until very late in life, when their heart has finally opened up to let "life" in - until they've faced their own failings, addressed their own mortality and met God in whatever capacity they are going to know Him. Then I say it's true... they were born dead, but now they are alive.
As to not feeling to welll myself...true! I think I'll have a cup of coffee. Since I can't stop myself from aging, I daily come closer and closer to dying. But I am looking forward to it. I feel as morose as they guys do more than I should. But I should just remember: God is more merciful and more wonderful than we could ever perceive. And heaven is a beautiful place where one day all of us will be. Because God is good, and only because God is good we will all be there one day. And we can tell Sartre and Nietszche, "I really loved your joke! Thanks for making us laugh at our mortality!"

Keep talking like that and you will have a good reason to not feel good.

Mark 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

I prefer the truth that the man who said such (stupid) words, is dead.

How can God be 'dead', when all of creation is alive?

It's ridiculous. :-)

Controvertial but ridiculous.

A bit insulting, in R & S, too... :-)

You don't have to be a Theist to believe in / understand 'God'.

The Buddha spoke of Him / the concept / reality.

I think Nietzsche, was misinformed. :-)

Osho spoke of how, when the idea was expressed, Nietzsche began to die...

Zen doesn't mean 'no faith' - does it? :-)

God cannot die for he is the very author and sustainer of life. All life comes from Him and He holds everything together in His hands. You too can live, if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the the resurection and the life. Through Him you can have life, have it abundantly, and live forever. I'm praying the author of life will breathe life into your soul and deliver you from death. Grace and peace to you.

In different words a neurotic god made up by applying the authors of those scrolls. it fairly is a e book crammed with violence. the only thank you to get alongside with that god is to be a toady. It depends on the context.

Sometimes it refers to the religious doctrine of blood atonement (god dying on behalf of humanity)

More often it simply means that the idea of God is no longer necessary.
