I'm a vegetarian, and I've never had any health issues. All my nutrients are at the healthy level, and I am right in my BMI. Could a meat-based diet be the cause of obesity? Or could it simply be that convience has overthrown a healthy meal with the fast food industry? What is your opinion?

I know a lot of people that eat meat that are not overweight so that has nothing to do with it. Too many parents let their kids plop in front of the TV, computer or video games for hours at a time instead of making them get off their butt and actually do something outside. They sit and eat junk food (If it's not in the house they can't eat it so don't buy it for them). I know some vegetarians that still don't eat healthy and are overweight...they have chips and other junk in their pantry.

There's no doubt in my mind that it's caused by overconsumption of refined carbohydrates! I live on mostly poultry, some beef, eggs, veggies, and fiber and I've lost weight and have kept it off for 9 months. I watch what people eat because I'm very curious (nosy), and I've noticed that people are eating WAYYYY too many refined carbs!!! These people eating white bread, pasta, bagels, rice, and crackers with the "low fat" mindset are just setting themselves up for failure and a whole bunch of health problems.

Sugar should be outlawed , in my opinion. With the increasing rate of childhood obesity and diabetes, I predict sugar will be looked upon like cigarettes in the near future!!

I don't think meat alone is the culprit. I think it's a combination of sedentary lifestyles, too much fast food, and too much eating, period. At my job, I see people who work desk jobs go get takeout for lunch. They bring back styrofoam trays that are absolutely packed full. If you have a job where you sit on your @ss all day, you don't need that much food. I am 5'8'', 160 lbs, and I'm on my feet all day at work. If I ate like that , I'd gain too much weight as well. And I'm an active person! Maybe I'm wrong, but I've noticed people eating way too much at work, church, restaurants, etc.

laziness and fatty foods.

I dont think its a meat-based diet because I am a meat eater and I am at my BMI and very healthy.

We cannot blame industries on America's laziness and greediness.

We eat too much. Pretty simple answer. When I was younger we didn't have huge meals. There was only 1 fat kid in school back then.

Self-rightous vegetarians who are completely smug and full of themselves lead others to gorge on delicious pork, beef and poultry.

Bigger Portions, and high fat content foods....I don't think it could be a meat based diet......too much of anything can make you overweight.
