Your teacher wants this information . OK here goes:-
The definition of a pediatrician:- a Physician that cares for infants to adolescents, etc.
Pediatricians have many sub-specialties:-
Pediatric Neurologist, Pediatric Surgeon, Pediatric
cardio-pulmonary specialist and the list goes on. Look up the definition of each and explain that
PEDIATRICS is more than a "children's doctor", he/she specializes in many different aspects of children's care. Pediatric Hematologists make $300,000+, Pediatric Oncologists probably close to the same. The real hero here is the everyday Pediatrician who finds the problems, is on call all the time and listens to parents as well as children.
Oh! an he makes the least amount of money since our health care HMO system is in place.

Belle is pretty much on the money. General Pediatricians are the lowest on the HMO food chains - meaning they get paid the least of all the specialties. I don't know exactly what the docs I work for make in terms of dollars and cents salary-wise, but I see what the insurance companies pay, and most of them, it's roughly 50 cents on the dollar billed. There will always be a need for them, because pediatric medicine and adult medicine are vastly different, and unless you're in a VERY rural area, you don't see any family practitioners (they see patients from birth to death, age wise) anymore.

Pediatricians are pretty much accessible to their patients 24/7/365 because children don't get sick between 9-5 Monday to Friday. Most of them work out on-call and covering schedules within the local hospital department.

To become a pediatrician, one must graduate from college, go to medical school ( 4 years) , do internship, then take a 3 to 5 or 6 year residency in pediatrics (the specialization takes longer.)
