My Marine is IRR and has been offered a job in Germany for a year.
He has invited me to come along.
However, I would like a source of revenue for myself. Although he says not to worry about it...I hate being a free loader.

Can anyone help point me in a direction?

Well, if you are going to live on a base, try calling the base and asking their family services people.

Also, see what is around the base, and what industries you would be interested in. There might be hotels... that is my industry. You don't need much experience to be a concierge or front desk agent... but you would need to speak German, and you didn't say if you do.

If you are even remotely interested, try the website below. You can work from home at your own computer and do concierge-like work. I know people who have done it and said it's fun. Also, there is a company called HelmsBriscoe (www.helmsbriscoe.com) that does event planning and people work from home all over the world. They are commission based rather than salary based, and you set your own hours. One of my best friends is doing that.

Good luck to you!! Way to support your Marine! God Bless the USA!

It is going to be hard to get a job in germany if you can't speak german. Which i could not do so i went back to england and worked a couple of months then went back. It was tiring but like you i am not a free loader. Talk to the base where he will be stationed to see of any ways that you can earn a income without speaking german. It may be usuful to start learning german as well!!

As an american citizen you`ll need a workpermit to work in Germany in the civilian sector/off base. E.U regulations would apply.

Here are a couple of links:

First you have to create your resume: https://cpolst.belvoir.army.mil/public/resumebuilder/builder/index.jsp

Then, once the resume is in, you can go here:

https://cpolwapp.belvoir.army.mil/public/vabSelfNom/index.jsp

or

http://www.usajobs.com/

Search for jobs in Germany.

There are also jobs around military installations that look for people who speak english, but you will need a work visa for those.
