Doesn't look too bad. Heavy black work like this tends to scab up pretty good, in my experience anyways. I would disaggree with the artist however and reccommend you use some lotion on that, something gentle like aveeno. It will help the healing and stop the itching. Just dont pick at the scabs. You may lose some color, but that is not uncommon either. When it is good and healed, in about 4-6 weeks, go back to the artist and have him touch it up. He should do this free of charge. I dont think the ink is smudged, it just looks blurry because of the scabbing. Tattoos always look great the day you have it done, and then not so good when it is healing, but once it is healed it looks as good as the day it was done.

First of all, just using Lubriderm on new ink was the WORST advice you could have been given... Take it from someone in the medical field, who has 10 tattoos, and an AWESOME tattoo artist... For the first 24 hours, you should always use bacitracin (or Neosporin), after that you should switch to a product that can be purchased at most any store with a "baby" isle, it's called "aquaphor" made by Eucerin... I have found that to be THE BEST therapy, and can be used after the first 24 hours and for the duration of the healing process. Now, about the scab... Yes, this is normal, every person is different, and your body heals uniquely. DO NOT PICK AT THE SCAB!!! This will cause the ink to "fall out" which just means, once it's healed, will look just AWEFUL! Itching is a sign of healing, the best advice I can give (and believe me, I have tried several tattoo products as I have VERY sensitive skin) is this: 1. ALWAYS wash your hand with warm soapy water, with an anti-microbial saop (like dial) 2. Use your fresh clean hands to wash the tattoo gently with the same soap 3. ALWAYS use paper towels to gently dry the area-do NOT use towels, as they harbor germs, and could cause infection (thus a badly healed tattoo) 4. let your tattoo air dry after patting it with the paper towel of r15 minutes 5. use the appropriate product, in a VERY thin layer (if it is too goopy, or too "shiny" it'll clog your pores, and the ink wont "take" very well) Follow these steps for at least 2 weeks, or until your tattoo is completely healed. Then you should always use a good lotion with SPF to protect it from sun damage and keep the skin moisturized. Best of luck to you honey, ditch the Lubriderm until you're completely healed. Try the Aquaphor, it's only about $4 at Target and works GREAT! If all else fails, get yourself some "Tattoo Goo" and follow their instructions.

Oh boy...you are supposed to keep it moist, but only with a fragrance-free light moisturrizer. My tattoo artist always recommends Uncscented Lubriderm. When I got my first tattoo, the artist recommended A&D Ointment, and when mine scabbed and basically disappeared, i figured i'd take alternate advice. I just called 2 more tat artist friends of mine and they also say, Lubriderm (fragrance free) and DO NOT pick at it! Good luck...hope your ink gets better.

It is okay..You could have taken better care of it but that is neither here nor there..OK hot showers!!! anti bacterial soap!!..at this point lotion is not going to do anything for it so just let it heal..DO NOT PICK at it if it itches slap it with your hand!!..When the scabs start to fall off then start in with the lotion ..Thanks for the visuals !!! good luck

different artists advise different things but that tattoo just looks like it was poorly done. the "smudging" is likely permanent. i have always been told to put something on my tattoos so i would advise that you start putting a fragrance free lotion on it or some other tattoo care product. maybe it will turn out okay after all.

I was told by my artist to use A&B ointment that they should have gave you for about 2 days then use Lubraderm Coco Lotion. My suggestion is to get some Lubraderm Coco.

Your scabs are completly normal, so don't worry about it its just healing.
Some of your tats will 'smug' some won't, that is normal to, just blot it with a clean towel.

You're okay, just DO NOT pick at it, or you will have spots in your new tat!! It won't look nice at all!

Its normal all mine did that. It scabs because the skin was cut (to put the ink in...) its fall off just dont pick at it...However you should have used a light fragrance free white cream/lotion, i dunno what the hell he was talking about...

eh ok? No...

1st of all, Bacitracin is typically used for the 1st few days to insure no infection occurs.

after that you want to keep a very light film of cetaphil or equal lotion on it.

call your artist again, you must have misunderstood him or her.
