just imagine

it would be as small as an psp
it would the memory of a lad top
it would have the games of all the systems
it would be a phone
it would have the power of a video i-pod

and more

The only reason we don't right now (given that we already have the technology) is that each of the areas you're addressing are functionally diverse and each are done better by a dedicated device. (I.E. a laptop does better at being a laptop than a hand-held smart-phone, games are still better run on a dedicated system than by a system that multi-tasks, etc)

So will this ever come to fruition?

The day each of the manufacturers for each of these separate components become diverse enough to have their fingers in each of these development arenas will be the day they start combining everything.. because the loss of money they may experience won't be actually lost in the market share if their only competition for the dedicated devices is themselves.

If that makes sense.. then you have your answer ;)

Considering the gaming industry has always been split by their seperate consoles, it will be a long time before you could have a machine that plays games form every company.
