Contrary to what "carman" said. Most dealer REQUIRE a deposit, so don't feel bad, you did what you had to do. You can get the deposit back.

Try them again, they will refund it. Or you can call your credit card company to reverse the charges.

I sell BMW's and all but my best clients pay a deposit, regardless.

Never put a deposit down on a car, no matter what the dealer tells you. They make it very difficult to get it back -- "we lost the check", "our bank is closed", "our bookeeper is out sick", "what was it you wanted again?"

I hope you have papers that say the deposit is refundable.

The only time you should leave a deposit is when you special order a car, and only then when you ABSOLUTELY know that you'll want the car when it comes.

The only reason dealers want a deposit is that is locks you into the deal and keeps you from looking elsewhere.

If you haven't taken delivery you can always dump the deal. Don't ask them if you can, just tell them you've changed your mind and ask for your money back.
