I would trust an autopsy more than the word of the groomers anyday.

Sorry to hear that. If you think the groomer was at fault, your recourses are to have your veterinarian perform or arrange for an autopsy to get proof so you can sue in small claims court. Assume it was a valueable show animal and you haven't learned to groom yourself which is what most exhibitors do. If your furbaby was a pet, you probably won't get much compensation, but at least the cost of the fatal grooming and the autopsy would be given to you. Small claims court isn't much on granting awards for pain and suffering by pet owners. Does your city have a mobile grooming service which will come to your home in a fully equipped van and do it there? If not, you might want to consider starting such a service yourself or campaign for one.

Why did your cat die? How soon after taking it to get groomed did it die?
Was it groomed at a vet place or pet store or where?
You will need proof, don't wait to long or you might not be able to do anything about it.
I feel so sorry for you and what your poor cat must of gone through.
I was thinking about taking my older cat in for a bath, he has a skin problem, because I can't do it and the vet said it is necessary. I was afraid to though, knowing how he fights it. I'm so glad I read your question before I did it!
I tried searching the web for an answer, but didn't find anything related, sorry.
I hope you can find a good answer here, if not contact any lawyer and ask to be referred to someone who can help you.

Well first I would probably ask the groomer what they used to groom her. Then,if any of those chemicals were affected to her death,I would consult them, and probably sue them too. As a grooming place they should know what to use,and not to use on animals. I would also ask the vet for an autopsy to see what your cat actually died from,if it was from natural cause there's nothing the groomer can do,good luck. let me know what happens with that.

some groomers will use a sedation with cats and if this is so with you cat the groomer may have explained that with any sedation there are risks , if sedation was used and you were not informed of it and you can prove it with an toxicology test done ( they do this with an autopsy ) then thy can be in big trouble.....but with out an autopsy you can never know what happened , it may had nothing to do with the groomer .

Groomer may have used or allowed your cat to be exposed to the wrong product - one that is toxic to cats. Can't mix cat and dog products. Does the groomer also groom dogs?

wow first of I am so sorry you poor thing second get the vet to do autopsy then you can find out if the cat was dehydrated while in the care of the groomer that is unfortunately common next step legal procedings if in fact it was something that the groomer did. keep all documentation and take them to court also if it was t heir responsibility tell all your friends so they dont bring their pet there

You need proof of why the cat died, ie if the groomer was responsible for the cat's death. Then you could sue in small claims court.

To find out if the groomer may have had something to do with it... you have to take the cat to a vet for an autopsy. They will tell you the cause.

wow that's awful. I'm sorry about your cat. I would want to know the cause of death but suing the groomer won't bring your cat back.
