I was just wondering b/c everyone seems amazed that my daughter has been completely potty trained since she was 2 1/2 years old!

She has only had two accidents since then also. It worked out perfect b/c just as we quit buying diapers for her our son was born so we weren't buying diapers for two kids!

In fact she finished her potty training with pooping in the potty while I was in labor with her brother!!

Most kids start the process around 2 so yours sounds like a reasonable age. All for of mine decided they were going to wait until they were 3...its like one day they just woke up and decided "hey I'm not going to wear diapers anymore!!" However my sister had hers completely trained at the age of 2. It varies with each child and as long as they are fully trained by the time they start school, there really isn't too much to worry about!! I am glad to here you're past that, I know how trying it can be!!

My daughter was poop-trained by 18 months, and completely potty-trained by 2.5 yrs. She could have been trained by 2, but I got lazy because I was pregnant and wasn't consistent with her training for peeing. I ended up using m&m's (stickers didn't work) as an incentive to finish her training - then it only took a couple of weeks.

I think the idea that kids have to be ready is problematic in the sense that it seems to be a common myth that kids are only ready when they decide themselves (they're interested and willing to tell you). I think it's more of creating a habit of going to the potty rather than a choice to go. As long as it's not a negative process, I think it's much better to start earlier - less dirty diapers to change and less diapers used in the first place. For the parents where kids are trained in a matter of days - that's great. But there are so many stories I hear of kids refusing to cooperate - especially after 2/ 2.5 yrs.

I also never used a little potty - I didn't want to bother with the extra cleaning and sanitizing. The Baby Bjorn toilet trainer (placed on a regular toilet) was perfect for my daughter - she could easily sit on it when she was one. The only thing is you can't leave them on it at such a young age (in case they fall off), so you do spend your time sitting with them while they poop. Which is fine - especially if you use the opportunity to read books with them.

2 1/2 is an appropraite age to be potty trained. I don't know why everyone is surprised. My husband's aunt who babysat for us when we went to work had our first son potty trained at 13 months. Not the regular potty, the kiddie potty. And our second son was fully potty trained at 18 months. I just made using the potty the best experience he could possibly have by rewarding him for sitting on it, singing songs about going potty in the "pot pot", sitting him on it approx 15 minutes after I gave him something to drink, and so on. It's very time consuming but so is changing diapers at very inconvenient moments.

Mine were around 3...3 1/2. They still had accidents frequently at night at that age.

I have 5 children and the ages differed between children. The girls were quicker and they were trained a little before 3 yrs.

My mother in-law told me hers were potty trained at 18 months. I was under so much pressure to get my first child potty trained.

There is no way hers were potty trained at 18 months.

We started on my daughter at two, but she refused to use the potty.....she would have accidents all day, but then one day out of the blue(just before she turned 3) she told me wanted to use the potty now...and she never had an accident from that day on...not even at night...I think children just know when they are ready and some are ready sooner...I would say 2.5 yrs is really good though....My doc told me not to even start till after 2 because before 2 you are not training the child, but training yourself to get the child to the potty on time....

i was potty trained at about 18 months. 2 1/2 is a very normal age. most boy are potty trained later for some reason it' harder for them to learn. my loittle borther were trained at about 2 1/2 my other sisters were trained at 18 months as well
PS in some middle eastern countries they have their children completely trained by 1 some earlier. i think eveyr kid should be trained by 3. My 3 year old brother can have full conversations and go to school he SHOULD be potty trained

I have three kids. My oldest son was trained at 2 1/2 - took me three days, and he was good to go. My second son is mildly autistic - I JUST got him trained, and he just turned four.
And it took me about a month to get him fully trained, but now that he's got the hang of it he's never had an accident. And my daughter, my third, god bless her, trained herself, literally, a week after she turned two. She kept bugging me for "big girl panties", I wasn't ready to train her (was still struggling with my son) - but finally had a weekend we were hanging around so I said what the heck - put underwear on her, and she never had an accident, and woudl tell me whenever she had to go to the bathroom. I didn't have to do a thing. What a gift!!!!!

We started my niece at 15 months...She would go and sit on her potty and go by herself. Then we ended up buying a house and moving so we fell behind and she didnt get completely trained until 2. She hasn't had an accident since so we have no complaints about waiting a little longer.
