why do so many young christian musicians form christian rock bands? seems sort of hypocritical if you ask me. is it just so they can appeal to more young people? isn't the truth enough? you don't see muslims coming out with muslim heavy metal.

geez people, if any of you are over the age of 20 and have never heard rock and roll be referred to as the devil's music, go back to the rock you were living under.

i love it when i get insults from morons the likes of dillinger. "the devil may have had his feet firmly planted in metal a few years back." yeah, until some christian wannabe rock stars decided, "hey, since our music sucks and nobody is buying it, let's try and trick people into thinking our music is cool like that heavy metal music."

Rock and roll is not the devil's music.
I'm not sure about the christian version though. It does mention the devil an awful lot.

dude music is music....there is no such thing as secular, or christian or satanic music, why, because music is music, and that is it, nothing more, nothing less. it's just a bunch of notes and put together to creat music.
now what really matters is the lyrics...sure you got this band over here and all they have is a turntable, a set of drums and a bass guitar and the music they make is hip hop or rap...and another band over here has a full fledged rock band...and the next has heavy metal band, those are all STYLES of music....it is not about the style it is about the SUBSTANCE (the lyrics and the heart of the person)
i am in a Christian rock band...i write all the songs...and put them to music, some are fast, some slow, some are hard and some are mellow, but that is just the music and style, but what really has the ability to get to the soul of a person is through the lyrics, the words, which takes you and connects you with the song writer to see their true intentions and motives and desires....whether to write a catchy song, or to write one glorifying all the things satan is about...or Worshiping the One and only God through these lyrics
i'll say it one more time, the style does not matter it is all about the substance..the lyrics

The devil's music is any song glorifying Satan. In fact, rock and roll was not called the "devil's music" by any rock star until the 1960s! In the 1950s, some people called it "devil music" or "n***** music". That's kinda misleading. Even jazz, country, or folk songs can be "devil music" if it was used to glorify Satan. In that case, I don't have a problem with Christian Rock, provided that it glorifies God.

There are only two kinds of music.
Good music, and bad music.
God gave us Rock and Roll, though the devil tries to take credit for it, like he does with everything else. May God's Name, His Holy Name, be lifted up in some really kickin' new Rock and Roll!
My feet are on the Rock!

You make a good point, actually. (And by the way, I do like some rock music....I'm just very picky about which artists).
It is true that rock n roll was associated from the beginning with sex and drugs and rebellion. Just ask any "baby boomer" and they will tell you that's what rock music is all about.
Although this has changed a little today (i.e. not every rock singer is into sex and drugs), the fact still remains that rock is a secular genre, so I do not think Christians should make worship and praise music with rock beats.
Sacred music should be separate and distinct from secular music.
You can't just call any music "Christian" because the lyrics are about Jesus. The style of music communicates something, too.

Where do you get this stuff? I'm a Christian, love rock and roll in many forms secular and non-secular. Very few Christians I know of take the whole of rock and roll and claim it to be the "devil's music". Grow up!

Every parent of every generation thinks the music of their children is the devil's work. My mother thought the music of the 60's was a bad influence, her mother disliked the big band era. Her mother thought the music of the 20's, with it's unlady like dancing and short skirts was a guarantee of damnation.
And I think that gangsta and some rap is the same, some of the dances are beyond suggestive, the language is foul, and it demeans women. Not all of it, some of it.
The young Christians form rock bands to appeal to a very large audience, to sell more CD"S. They do so because they like rock, but can't listen to much of it, due to the suggestive lyrics. As the saying goes, drugs, sex, and rock and roll. They do so to worship in their own, unique way.
And no, we do not see many Muslim rock bands. Rock was never much in their culture to start with. Hard to reinvent something you never had in the first place.
We all seek the truth. We all find it in our own way. Does Jesus judge us unfavorably because we listen to a christian rock band, instead of the old christian music? To me, as long as we find Him, and worship Him, how we exalt His name, be it with trumpet, as in ancient times, or electric guitar, is not relevant. But that is my opinion.

You sir are a moron. Yeah, I said it. Who in the world said "rock and roll is the devil's music"? Only a legalistic no-Christian trying to attain right favor with God by his own actions rather than trusting in the works of Christ, that's who. What you do, what you listen to etc. has NOTHING at all to do with Christianity. It's a heart issue, and only God can see WHY we do the things we do! I listen to alot of Christian metal. Half the bands out there right now are Christian!
Look into: Killswitch Engage, Underoath, As I Lay Dying, Norma Jean, mewithoutyou, Glass Casket, on and on...
You are suggesting legalism, probably because that is your idea of Christianity--we go to church, follow our 10 rules, and we're good to go. Not so, and actually I've been to church maybe twice in the last 2 months--I'm a conservative born-again Christian and I headbang. Alot.

God created all good things. Rock music moves the soul for SOME; and so there is great worship music for God's glory that is rock.
Muslims don't do music.

Who told you that? Do you actually believe every thing you hear or read? Thats not a
good idea, esspecially in this day and age.
I am a christian, and i love rock music.
I do not care for gospel music; its just a musical preference. I was an original "woodstocker", and my taste in music hasn't changed. My taste for certain foods hasn't, either.
I don't even want to get myself started with regards to muslims and their "religion of peace"; I want to have a good day, today.
