The official Christian answer is (don't know if you're just an uninterested skeptic, but here it is anyway): According to Scripture, the Flood destroyed the entire earth, which would have included this beautiful Garden of Eden with its Tree of Life. So after the Flood, there would be no need to guard a destroyed Garden. The angelic guard and the flaming sword were removed (they were supernatural objects, so a Flood wouldn't "drown" them).

FUNNY DONKEY,IF ONLY THE SPIRIT OF LIFE INSIDE ADAM ,HAD CUT DOWN AND BURNED THE TREE OF GOOD AND EVIL ,ALL WOULD FOREVER LIVE IN LIFE HERE ON EARTH ,FOR ON THE DAY YOU EAT FROM THAT TREE,YOU DIE ,THE SPIRIT THAT WAS HOLY INSIDE YOUR SOUL BECOMES UNCLEAN IN SPIRIT AND KNOWS NOT THE TRUTH,YOU MUST BE AND REMAIN HOLY IN THE LIGHT TO HOLD THE TRUTH IN LIFE.

Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
