My car needed new rear tyres but only a very small area on the inner edge was worn and the rest of the tyre had lots of tread left. If the weight is only on such a small area of the tyre, surely this cannot give good road grip. I have always found that the rear end tends to slip easily in the wet etc- even when the tyres were new. The dealers tell me this is normal for the car and nothing to worry about. Has anyone experienced and had this corrected?

You need to get the geometry checked by a specialist and the dealer is giving you a load of bull.

It doesn't sound right - it sounds as though the rear tracking is out - some cars have a set of bushes that support the rear subframe - when these wear the tracking goes out of alignment and the tyres wear unevenly - your best bet is to take it to a tyre specialist - NOT KWIK FIT - and let them check the car's tracking.

It might well be a normal thing for this car but to me - it doesn't sound right.

I have the similar problem on my front tyres, only in my case, its wearing rapidly on the outside.

The tracking and geometry has adjected by the Mazda dealer but it has not made any difference. I am on the 3rd set of tyres since Aug 06 but Mazda are maintaining there is no problem with the vehicle.

The vehicle is unsafe and Mazda is taking our lives into their own hands.

I suggest putting your point across to Watchdog, like many other people. www.bbc.co.uk/consumer. With sufficient responses, watchdog will air our issues.

if the car tends to slip easy you have a problem and get it checked at a service station. it could be that tyre, it doesnt matter if the rest of the tire has thread, if that one section is worn, then thats the part that the car realies on the most, so get it checked

you sure your tyre pressures are correct?
check that first (cheapest to cure)
correct tyres fitted?
i doubt you would be carrying excess weight all the time so i would rule that out.
sounds like an allignement problem to me, next time make sure new tyres are properly balanced.
rear end sliding can be caused by going too fast when cornering and is very easy to do in the wet.

No, it's NOT normal. Your tracking needs checking and you may have suspension repairs that want doing.
