I could swear that in the past I have seen a car penalized for leaving with a crew member on the track side of the car when they leave. The reason I am wondering is because Jeff Gordon left his pit box with a crew member on the wrong side of the car at the race he won at Darlington. Am I just confused or is there really a rule?

No, but the impact wrenches do have to be over there.

You are not allowed to drive over the air hoses.

You are confused sir. So long as all the tools are on the pit wall and the tires, the crew can be standing anywhere they want. There is NO RULE as to where the crew members stand. Thats why, now and then, you see a crewman get clipped by another car. OR, are you looking for an excuse to dis-qualify Gordon???

The high profile crew members, which are often not the over the wall crew, ex. Crew Chiefs, Car Chiefs, Comp Dir. I have seen crews traded between the same owner. Roush has moved full teams between drivers. HMS will do it next year between 5 and 25. When Dale Jr's crew chief left, he was allowed to take a coupe of crew members with him for next year.

My recollection is the crew has to have all equipment back to the left side of the car before it leaves, but that a crew member can be on the right and in fact you fairly often see them over there if you watch closely... It really happens a lot on two tire stops or on stops where they are tweaking some bent sheetmetal or something like that.

I was thinking in the past crew couldn't go over the wall till after the car stopped, but when they are done, as soon as the jack man drops the car that's the driver's signal to go, so not sure about the end of a pit stop.

Absolutely not . if you watch a race a tire change can be done in 14 seconds there is no way a man could be over the wall that fast - watch next race and pay attention to a pit stop and you'll see. GO DALE JR.

NO !!!!!!! They do not have to be on the left side of the car !!!!!!!!!!!!! All equipment has to be on the left side before the car can leave the pit box....

Here we go again--someone looking for something to gripe about, because Jeff Gordon won another race.........

Tape the next race and see how many times other drivers leave with one of their crew members on the right side of the car.

DRIVE FOR (5) FIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO #24 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that they are supposed to be out of the way either on the left side, or behind if they need to push...whether that is a rule, I thought it was...
