I cant sleep, they bang on the wall since the little boys bunk beds are on the wall next to my bedroom, they smoke outside and leave butts all over the place, trash, and they have friends over all the time who just sit outside and it is almost impossible for me to go outside without them starring at me, their trash can is in front of their door and the landlord specifically told me that the trash can was to be left on the side of the house not the front. The noise is so loud and it sounds like people are running on the roof! What do I do without sounding like an asshole? Help! I need some quietness!!

The parents smoke outside like chimneys and the kids are either inside or running outside.

Go to the adults of the house and ask if they could possibly move their childs bed to the other side of the room. And ask them if they wouldn't mind keeping it down. Even if you don't work in the morning. Tell them you are trying to sleep. Also ask them to please keep their trash can where they are suppose to be. If they don't like it they will let you know. I just went through this with me neighbor. Just be polite and they will hopefully give you the respect you deserve. As long as you aren't being noisy with your friends. If they laugh at you just let them know you will have to contact the landlord then. and if he doesn't do anything then I would suggest calling the police. But usually In MOST cases they will calm down so they dont get kicked out. If you have to call the landlord in the middle of the night so he can hear them, then do it. Good luck and let me know how it went. Marsh0202@yahoo.com

If you have a camera (if nothing else use a camera phone) and take pictures of their trash can in the wrong place and their cigarette butts all over the ground. If you can, use a microphone and record the noise of the kids running and banging. Then bring it to your landlord. If your landlord is any kind of decent person I'm sure he/she wouldn't want people like that living in his apartment. If they leave trash everywhere OUTSIDE just imagine what the INSIDE of their apartment looks like!

Sound like an asshole. Approach your landlord and ask for an eviction. Might be cruel but if you have been putting up with it for a while you need to be more assertive. Another option is to wake them up at 2 in the morning by beating on the wall. or throw a wild party! That would be fun and productive.

Complain to the landlord. The more complaints they get, the landlord will be obligated to do something about it. I take it this is an apartment? You can certainly move out at anytime... But if you're not in the position to just pick up and go, ask the landlord if you can switch to another unit, somewhere more quiet.

I really think your best alternative would be to move yourself. Next time, if you move into a large apartment complex, you can request your apartment to be in a building with less kids or not next door to kids. I have done this before and apparently alot of other people feel the same way. I have always been able to be placed in a building with no kids when I requested it.

Document their activities and complain to the landlord or apartment manager. Ask for a different unit someplace else.

If you must, break the lease and move. You're paying top dollar for peace and privacy. Your landlord may not like it but it's his responsiblity to screen applicants. Obviously he didn't.

You're not a jerk - your neighbors are.

Something doesn't sound right here.

They are little boys and they smoke?

When they make noise - you just make more noise than they do.

Have you tried calling the police? They ARE disturbing the peace.
