According to a person that will remain nameless (not anyone on the grooms side) I was told that etiquette says that you can only dance at evening weddings. I love to dance and want to be able to dance with my new husband for the first time and also my father. The time of the wedding and reception can not be changed because we have to catch a plane immediatly after the reception. So my question is how current is this rule and does any one know where it came from so I can disreguard it. Also if anyone does not know where it came from let me know of people that had a noon wedding and still had a band and dancing.

Noon wedding just means that you cannot have black tie or white tie, and it is too late for morning coats and ascots.

You can have dancing, but it will not be as formal as an evening event. Full band will be over-the-top, but you can always hire a quartet or octet at any time of the day. If you want to hire a band, that's fine - but with the time of day, most might just hire a piano player.

Noon as a wedding time tends to indicate that it is a less-formal event, but there's no reason you cannot dance with your new husband and your father.

That rule is really no longer followed. If you have a noon wedding now, its quite alright to have a dancing and band at a reception. Long time back it was a rule... very long time back. That is not longer a rule and traditions have changed.

I would encourage you to throw that rule out of the window and enjoy your reception.

You can dance whenever! If you want to dance at your reception then do so. :) Some people will dance, some people will not. That's really up to them. But unless you've got a huge clock at the front of the reception hall then most people won't even care what time it is and get up and boogie with you and your band!

You are the bride; you do what you want to. If you want to dance at a breakfast wedding go ahead and do so. I can see no reasons and I have not heard of any where you can not dance until evening. Talk it over with your husband to be and if you want to do the bridal waltz or rock and roll do it. Enjoy the wedding and life.

Technically whomever told you that is correct. A reception for a noon wedding should be a light meal and no dancing. You can have music like a live string band for ambiance. But I am a bridal consultant, so we give the bride what they want regardless of what etiquette says. Secondly, I hope you are getting married at 12:30 because etiquette says you should get married on the upswing of the clock.

The bottom line is that it's YOUR wedding day, and if you want to dance, then you dance. Don't let antiquated rules or outdated regulations or even old Aunt Berthas try to tell you otherwise. I wouldn't even think twice about it. Plan your wedding exactly the way you want to, and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

I have NEVER heard that one before. SOunds like baloney to me.

I am having a noon wedding. And due to timing and availability, our reception is 1 pm to 5 pm. I am having a lunch buffet and a DJ with dancing.

If anyone complains, I will shrug my shoulders and say "Oh well. It's MY party."

Its your wedding you can do anything you want to do.. it doesn't matter where it came from or who thinks its a "rule" rules are meant to be broken I doubt the "wedding police" are going to come and get you....and if you want to dance with your new husband then its your wedding DANCE!!

I've never heard that before. My wedding (this Sunday!!) is at 2pm, and the reception will be over by 6pm. But we're having dancing. There's nothing wrong with it.

Yes, you can still have a band and dancing - it just won't be as much of a "party" atmosphere or as formal as an evening wedding would be.
