find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise (running, jogging, cycling, swimming etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

1. Answer to 'does running on a treadmill loose weight' - you can loose about 200 calories an hour. You would have to run vigorously about 15 hours to loose 1 pound of fat. Mostly you loose water. the good thing is, if you keep up exercise, it changes fat into muscles and muscles burns 50 times more calories then fat just sitting in a chair.
2. Answer to 'whats best to loose weight' - eat a little bit less then you need to sustain or gain your weight. That could be anything from 1200 - 2800 calories a day. Make a list of what you eat and look up how much calories intake you have. If you eat 1400 calories a day but you only need 1250, you will gain about 1 - 2 pound a month, that's 12 - 24 pounds a year.

Cardiovascular exercise is important. But walking is good too. If you don't usually run and you start all of the sudden, you could end up with other problems, like sore knees/ankles/feet/back. Start small and gradually increase the intensity.

Diet is also important. It does not mean you should starve yourself though. I recommend a book called YOU On a Diet. Search online. It does a good job of explaining why you won't lose weight if you just stop eating. You have to eat, but eat the right stuff.

Running is good. Disadvantage of a treadmill is that you could park the unit beside the fridge...and always reward yourself. Stop with the rewards. Get into jump rope if you can for an even faster burn(boxers use jump rope to keep in shape).

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Yes. Running is one of the best exercises for losing weight! :)

(you also have to eat healthy too, though, b/c exercise alone will not help if you are still eating poorly & not drinking enough water)
