Kefalek Hebebe! Mabsota here. My father has a very common name and gets an extra questioning at ticket windows when we travel by air so I can relate. If your father is an Imam he must use these opportunities to show the grace of God that he has been given. If it is the will of God he will cut his beard, if your branch of Islam requires him to wear it then absolutely not and call the ACLU or some other legal think tank if he is ever detained for too long over nothing. To deal with the annoyance of daily life humor is a valuable tool, I suggest you check out the CBC programme "Little Mosque on the Prairie".

The same reason my daughter does, she has dark hair & eyes so she always gets held up and has to take off her shoes etc in customs here and abroad. Since 9-11 airports have been inspecting certain people who have features that are similar to the guys who flew the planes into the buildings. I know this is wrong but it is for the safety of the passengers

Having been in the INS process with my husband for over 10 years, I can tell you are just stirring up trouble. The INS could give two figs about a beard.

No, a bread shouldn't be keeping him in immigration. and no, he shouldn't have to shave it. How long has he been held up? Things can take months, but I doubt its because of his bread. Otherwise a young Mexican I know might have been mistaken for a 'bad guy'. Tell him to keep it, isn't that a show of adulthood? There is NO reason to cut it.

Right or wrong, if you look like an enemy of the state then your going to get treated as such. If you do not want to be hasseled by the man the conform, convert and adapt to the dominant society.

Only other choice is to move to a land where you do not stick out.

Possibly yes , its lot to do with the mind set of people. If some misdeed is percieved to be linked with a particular species, then others may take a cautious approach. One may find it humilating , but then others are only taking precautions.

He may shave it , if he wants to ; but he does not have to I guess.

well people can think what they want but he shouldnt have to change who he is, and what he want's just because pp are acting like baby's again. yer it might help if he got rid of the beard, but he shouldnt have to get rid of it if he doesnt want to.
