As a non-orthodox Jew can I use this question to also ivite the Jews for Jesus a.k.a. Shbabtists to go away? I've heard of some ridiculous things in my time, but Jews for Jesus. I know lots of Christians and lots of Jews- we get on, but you cannot be a Jewish Christian, just like you cannot be a Labour Tory MP!!!! Why can't people leave Judaism alone? We always have to answer for ourselves and we are always the butt of the joke. When we are not being thrown in ovens we are being accused of trying to dominate the world!!!! Can anyone explain to me just where these nuts, the Jews for Jesus came from? Next thing they'll be telling us it's okay to eat bacon sandwiches on shabbat, Jews for Pork!!!! Oy vey!

Look, I am no hassidic, I do not agree with a lot of what they say, but you cannot be a jew and believe in Christ. If you accept Christ as the messiah you turn your back on the Jewish people and base your religion on a lot of medieval Roman and Italian hocus pocus! Don't be fooled by the missionaries chaver!
Shalom

Just a brief comment to Mr. Lefties... yes I remember Longshanks, but I also remember Manasseh Ben Israel and Oliver Cromwell doing a deal so the Jews could return to Britain and that Britain prospered after their return. Oh, and I also remember Benjamin Disraeli (a convert I know, but still a Jew by this Nazi's standards). England has always been a friend to the Jews for at least 400 years, further back in time well, the expulsions were due to the Pope and the Orthodox Church pressurising the king. Anyway, the Jews have been around for at least 3000 years despite genocide and pogroms (largely thanks to the Christian established church) and we are still around... you homefires English cry about a few too many asians in your neighbourhood!!! Don't insult the Jewish airmen who fought in the Battle of Britain you nasty little blackshirted goy. Leh tizdae'n!

I am an Orthodox jew- an observant one that studies talmud daily and is busy with doing smicha. And you are 100% correct- Jews fo Jesus are NOT Jews, no Jew, anywhere has ever recofgnised them as anything but what they are- a missionary organisation started by a Babtist minister to try and convert Jews. Which answers your question as to where they come from- the Baptist Church.
Another group trying the same thing is Messianic Judaism. They try even harder than thre Baptist bunch to hide their connection to Christianity calling Jesus "Yehuda Hamashiach" to try and stop people from realising they are just trying to introduce Jesus into Judaism. They try to do the services in hebrew as well, to further hide their conenction to Christianity and to try and make themselves more acceptable to Jews. Problem is- worshipping a divine messiah is something that is complete anathema to judaism and breaks the commandment to put no gods before God!
On top of that- all these Christian denominations trying to hide their Christian connection in order to convert Jews hide the fact that according to EVRY Jewish denomination, even Reform and Reconstructionist, see them as Christians and there is not a single practicing Jew anywhere in the world that recognoses them as Jewish!

You say that, but you have the Messianic Jews, who follow the Jewish Laws to the 'T' and also believe that Jesus is the Messiah. But as for the 'Jews for Jesus' I have not heard about them before.
By the way the Liberal Demercrats (formally the SDP & the Liberal Parties which became the Liberal Alliance) are a combination of Labour & Tory MPs who set up their own party when they did not fully accept either the labour party or the Conservative Parties point of view, soin theory they ate Labour Tory MP's!
So why not be Jewish & believe in Jesus?

One cannot be a Jew and worship J*sus. Anyone who worships J*sus is a Christian. First of all, worshiping J*sus is idolatry, which Jews would rather martyr themselves than do. Second, if one observes Jewish law, he knows that one cannot be simply a self-declared Jew. One has to be Jewish through a set of laws, and therefore either the child of a Jewish woman or undergo a conversion by rabbinical court made up of observant Jews (which is not possible if members of the court are practicing idol worship).

I agree with you, a person can't be two things at once.
I don't agree with you on the point about Italian and Roman hocus pocus.
Correct me if I am wrong, to be a Jew is to believe in God , Moses and Abraham etc. Jews are not a race, therefore a Messianic Jew cannot be a Jew and at the same time believe in Christ.
DON'T PANIC- Supercessionism is old hat now

Isn't a 'Jew for Jesus' basically just a Christian!?! Jesus, his family and nearly all of his followers were Jewish. They believed what Jesus was saying which made them Jews for Jesus essentially. If you believe Christ was God's son then you're Christian whether you like it or not.

I agree with don't panic's response, and I *am* Jewish. Oh, let me add one more thing--Jews for Jesus are the **only** people who consider themselves Jewish. No Jew does, period end of sentence. I can call myself a Martian but that doesn't make me one, lol.

Why do people worship idols, when they know that they are the work of man, with mouths that do not speak, eyes that do not see?
They're searching for something, and the grass on the other side of the fence is greener.
I know several converts to orthodox Judaism, and they find the idea of Js for J, distasteful.

I agree.
But Christianity has always been about undermining Judaism. Misinterpreting our texts -- including many linguistic howlers -- stealing our imagery and language, and inventing doctrines like supercession (that they've replaced Judaism and gone one better). Two thousand years ago it was about swiping converts.
Today, they're utterly convinced that they're right and we're wrong. We only wrote the texts and speak the language, how could we possibly know what we're talking about? But they keep on assuming that their way is the only way.
Which is the absolute proof that they aren't Jewish in the least.

My grandparents were born Jewish! As a young married couple they came to this country & they choose to become Christians and follow Jesus. Don't you know that Jesus was a Jew? Christianity started in the holy Land. I don't belong to this Jews for Jesus as I am a non-denominational Christian.I would never try to convert you. I have a first cousin who choose to reject Jesus and now he is a rabbi! I choose Jesus! Shalom!

i think it is the nomenclature that gets under a lot of jews' skin with the "jews for jesus" thing.
as a jew i don't care if a jew actually takes jesus with them in philosophy, but it is the caption above that gets me.
i feel like at that point you are spiritually christian and should call yourself that. not to say that culturally you are not still a jew.
