I had a horrible experience where I was promised that I wouldn't even remember the procedure. I was on an I.V. and they put 02 on me as soon as the Interna; Specialist showed up. I felt everything, from every cut, to that tube going in and out. The Dr. did tell them to give me another 100 of who knows what. I wasn't even the least bit sleepy. I cried through the whole thing which did nothing but made me feel like a baby! If anyone out there has ever seen the movie "FIRE IN THE SKY", you will know what part kept flashing in front of my eyes. I asked, but was never given a clear answer on what went wrong. I was then told that my tolerance is so high that it impaired the sedation. I just can't shake it and I am already having nightmares. I had already told myself (jokingly) that I am going to have PTSD over this. I will never let anyone do anything to me again unless I am put under general anesthesia. I just want a clear cut answer. Anyone had this problem? TY for your help in advance.

Report this to the hospital administrator and the medical board to investigate this. You could also get a lawyer and see about filing a lawsuit for malpractice.Look in the yellow pages, usually the first visit is free. It has happened to people before, where sometimes they give a paralytic drug (so people can't move and then forget to give the anesthetic drug (to kill the pain)...so the person feels everything but is unable to communicate this or scream out in pain..

If this happened in a hospital, you could go to the medical records and show ID and tell them you want copies of the surgeon's notes, labs and test results. Even with a doctor's office, you have a right to look at your records (copies may be charged for a slight copying fee).

I did not have anything, asked to remain wide awake and two biopsies. I felt no cut, let alone a pinch just saw the blood spurting out on the monitor. Considering the magnification, it looked worse then it was. I was also using hand signals with the surgeon. The tube, well I ate it as they had starved me from three days before, thought it might be appendix, might need surgery. I did not eat the monitor or surgeon. The tube coming out I did not feel, but when I sat up I could not breathe as the gas they used to expand the esophagus and stomach let alone small intestine, was coming back out. Are you sure you were AWAKE and did not DREAM this?

Hello - welcome to my 'real' world in the dentist chair . . .!!!
The only way I've been able to have pain-free dental work done, is to be sedated (IV) - what a drag, not to mention seriously expensive . . . as a result? I've had most of my lower teeth removed (rather than continue to have them 'worked' on, as needed) and I'm rapidly heading for the land of dentures. . .
Yes - I know what you are speaking about -
Be grateful that general anesthetic is available - I am.
Sorry to hear that you had a miserable life experience - you did survive - and the healing does occur - best wishes to you.

The same thing can happen even with general anesthesia. There's a device which can monitor patient awareness, and allow better control of anesthesia.

Yes they should gave you something to relax you before you came in. Plus you need to tell them to give you something stronger. Go over there head and talk to the head person over the hosipal let them know how you were treated. No one needs to be treated that way! It seems it happens alot anymore. Talk to the main person before you have any more test.
