Baseball season is upon us- send him stuff to root for his favorite team. Send a collapsible chair with his favorite sport team, welcome mat, pennants, ect.
Magazine subscriptions are good because as they come in it reminds you to send something out. My hubby likes handyman/ DIY mags cause he can plan things for when he comes home. They like to think about home and what they want to do when they get here.
July 4th- go to Oriental Trading company, you can get a ton of themed stuff cheap and he can share with his unit.
I went to a local Reprographics company and had posters made with images for his unit. You can create fun images in photo shop- use a photo to paste his face into a funny image, or your own- and make a poster of it. Put your face on a old pinup girl body, etc.
My hubby is coffee drinker so I sent him Starbucks coffee beans, a coffee grinder, coffee flavorings and some gourmet biscotti- his unit really liked that!
There are lots of totally inappropriate T-shirt sites out there (tshirthell is my favorite). Buy some shirts and send those- they are a big hit.
What is a big dream item for when he gets back? I've been sending Harley Davidson brochures. You can search online and find DVDs, CDs, for free.
Blessings!

I was in Desert Storm and what really got me rolling was some good comedy in my suck life. The good folks back home sent me the whole FAR SIDE collection. My books would disappear for a week and I would have to hunt them down, everyone else was reading them.
I heard that the bases over there are pretty plush compared to what we had, so I dont know what they provide. The war was almost over before I could start making phone calls regular, and the internet didnt exist at the time. I had to stand in line for an hour for a five minute phone call that wouldnt connect.
I guess you know his mentality and what he likes. I really enjoyed the simpsons comics, the far side, etc. tickle his funny bone. Maybe some American style stuff that he might want to hand out to the Iraqi kids. Something he can irritate his friends with. Send some DVD series that he likes if he has access to a TV. Record some of the stupid commercials on TV and send those. Stupid stuff from spencer gifts. A remote control tank that shoots, so he can irritate people with it. I hope that these ideas help.
Also, has he been there before? Be patient with him when he gets back. It has been over 15 years, and I still have unresolved issues. God bless you both.

Throw a PARTY in his honor video tape it, where he would be sitting place a manikin with his picture over the head, maybe a military flag of his branch behind him.Have all his Friends there to tape a minute or two message for him. Make sure he hears from all how much they appreciate his service to our country. At the end have everyone stand and salute him and let him know that after he gets back and is ready there will be an even BIGGER PARTY for him. Please thank him for his service for me and my fellow Veterans and Americans.
Please Support Our Troops and Civilian Contractors

If it's getting close to time for him to come home, then send him something that will remind him of home. Get creative. What's special about his hometown that will make him have happy thoughts? Maybe you could recruit his mom to help out....something he really liked from his child hood? a certain type of candy or some kind of retro-cool toy to goof around with?
