As much as you can manage. At least an hour a day. Even more would be better, and breaking that up into a couple of sessions a day would be fine.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Well, the proper exercise is at least half an hour (the more the better). Besides exercise, observe your diet as well. Your exercise won't work if you just give your body more food than what it needs. The excess food, might turn into fats and flabs.

Exercise and diet are both equally important. This means that you got to eat the right amount of food - not too little, not too much - and add exercise to gain what you wanted. =]

I've been walking about 45 minutes a day for about 4 months now and I have lost some weight. If you are trying to lose weight though one of the most important things you can do is watch your diet!! Walking will do you no good if you aren't eating the proper foods!
