The Christian idea is that we either accept God or we reject God. Our beliefs come after that acceptance or rejection.

We look for reasons to not believe in God after we have already rejected Him. We rationalize the decisions we have already made.

We reject God because we don't want God to be in authority over us. We don't want God in authority over us just as we don't want our parents in authority over us. God allows us to freely make that decision simply by not revealing Himself to those who reject Him.

But deep in our hearts we long to have a fellowship with our Creator and we will never have peace until we rest in Him.

Sure, I believed in god. I was indoctrinated and brainwashed, just like MOST children are in the USA. I believed up until the point in my life when I learned how to THINK properly... 14 or 15 years old, if I recall correctly. It took another 4 or 5 years to clean up the residual mental debris that persisted as a result of having been contaminated by those false beliefs during my formative years.

It is sad that such a small percentage of people in America learn how to think properly, and overcome their brainwashing. For around 85% of Americans, the delusional state that was inculcated by religious brainwashing persists through adulthood, and unto death.

Yep...for years and years I believed in a God, and all that went with Him. I spent several years as an Altar Boy with a church....over that time I became more and more disillusioned with what God promised me, and with what I had to do in order to get "salvation".....it just didn't seem logically right. I saw the corruption of religion, and the money grabbing tactics, and the different "factions" amongst those of faith. Then I started to actually read philosophy and history and started to apply my intellect. I came to the conclusion that this religon thing (whilst proposing a high moral standard) was little more than an excuse for keeping the "peasants in line". Fair enough if YOU want to believe in a "God of love who consigns you to eternal damnation for not believing in Him", but this stuff is NOT for me. Atheism makes SO much more sense.

Now I've seen it all ! A Christian who doesn't believe in God !

What , pray tell , do you believe in & what on earth makes you a Christian ?

Yes , I am a Christian ... I believe in Jesus as the Son of God ...that he died for all of mankind , including me , & that through my acceptance of him As Lord & Saviour , I am freed from sin .

Yes , I wasn't always a believer ...I was 20 when the scales were lifted from my eyes by the power of the Holy Spirit...nothing I did , it was all the work of God in my life through his spirit !

You see , Christians aren't born Christians....it has to be a choice of the will ....that can happen at any age...maybe now is the right time for you to obey the call of God on your life !

When I was a kid I believed in god because I was told there was one and I didn't see any reason not to believe it.

When I saw reasons not to believe it it was obvious that it wasn't true so that little fantasy was gladly abandoned.
