Sikhs are exempted from wearing crash helmets when riding motor bikes because of their turbans, but you see sikh cricketers wearing helmets when batting- what is the difference

Now that is a good question.

I expect the difference is in the type of helmet. A crash helmet has to be close fitting as it is supposed to protect against fractured base of skull which was a common cause of death in motor cycles accidents but in cricket this is not a danger so the helmet can be made with more room. Actually I never really understood why Sikhs were exempt because the turban is not part of their religious requirements. It is the long hair and i would have thought that could have been allowed to hang down just as lady motorcyclists do

They cannot wear a crash helmet and a turban

They always wear a turban so it is unenforceable to ask a sikh to wear a crash helmet.

Nobody in their right mind would ride a bike without a helmet and I have never seen a sikh on a bike.

Monty does not wear a turban he covers his head with a cap and then wears the head gear

As far as I understood the Sikhs did something to their turbans to make it into a crash helmet, I am not sure about cricket.

Sikhs may be exempted from the rule, but perhaps they may feel that it is better to wear the helmet than the alternative.

Great question - no idea of the answer or reason behind these two examples. There is obviously a law allowing them to be exempt when riding a motor bike so they make use of this exemption.

Personal choice. Not everyone has the same views on what is and isn't acceptable for their religion's requirements, so there's bound to be differences.

they can not be compelled to put on helmet while riding because of religious reason and while playing they want to save themselves from injuries. well they should put on helmet.
