is anyone concerned? i can't believe that most of the questions on answers are about trivial things and not about what can we do about the price of fuel in this country

We are very concerned. And we are also very disturbed by the "summer trend". Personally I think it's all just excuses to make us think it is just a one time thing. Supposedly after Katrina prices spiked due to refinery shutdowns. Now what's their excuse? We're beginning to top that record.....It's all bull to try to get us used to high prices. Beleive me people, it's not gonna get cheaper over the long term. Count on it.

I think the first thing that Americans have to realize is that the Federal and State Governments are taking more money out of fuel prices than the fuel companies.

Here's the breakdown:
55% goes to paying for the price of the oil. That includes drilling, transport, employee costs, etc.
25% goes to paying for the price of refining, distribution costs, service station costs, commercialization, etc.
20-25% goes towards taxes. On average it's 20%, but states like California and Michigan are near 25%.
5% is solid profit.

I would take it out on the politicians before the CEO's of the oil companies.

We don't have public transportation in my community, so we are stuck. If we don't have a vehicle, we walk, or ride bikes. That is not easy when the nearest large city is 35 miles away. We do try to commute as much as possible.

Our community is too small to employ everyone that lives here.

Public trnasit is good. Just not always dependable. And it is called public for a reaon. Runs on a schedule. May not be idal for your lifestyle. You can be late for work and when you shift ends, no guarantee there will be a bus to catch.
But, if we all work together it will help out on the long term.

There is a gas boycott today but a lot of people won't agree to it. Some want to do it longer, some want to do it every month and others say it will do no good. We need to unite to make a difference.

Im probably gonna start walking to the store (and gym!) since both are less than 1 mile away. It was warm outside and is good exercise and it will benefit my health while I keep my gas.
