The first step is determining what triggers your migraines. My Mom and daughter get migraines. My Mom's can be caused by certain foods (chocolate and onions) and strong smells (perfume). My daughter's are most often caused by stress. If you know what causes your migraines you can take steps to avoid those triggers.
Once you have a migraine you can try lying in a dark room, putting a cold cloth on the back of your neck, or have someone massage your face, back and neck. You can also try putting a cold compress on your head and your feet in warm water.
Aromatherapy, smelling peppermint, lavender, and marjoram, may help too. I switched to lavender scented fabric softener. I'm not sure if it helps but it's worth a try.

I get migraines myself and they are rough to deal with. For me I try to sleep it off. If I have to work I take Advil migraine and this works in about 20 min. Different things work for different people though and thats probably why people have told you to see a doctor. Plus the doctor can try stronger meds for you as well.

apply an ice pack to the back of your neck and lay quietly in a darkened room for fifteen minutes. Many times this helps. Migraines are difficult to treat and you really do need to see a medical doctor to get the proper medication.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.

Usually migraines are caused by something (eg. Hormonal, Digestion, Poisoning, health issues) I suggest you get it checked out if you have them regually. But I've heard that ginger beer and water helps.

Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

Cut all caffeine out of your diet. You will feel crappy for a few days until your body detoxes from the caffeine. alternate alleve with advil and if that doesn't work see a neurologist.
