Last Saturday (1 week ago) i was eating pizza when suddenly i had problems swallowing. I didnt finish my dinner.

I've had the same problem (swallowing) since then, plus added nausea. I've been to the campus doctor, who says it might be a viral infection and gave me non-aspirin stuff. I've been on it for five-six days (missed a few doses cuz hey, couldn't swallow anything) with little change.

He didn't tell me what to do for nausea though. I am going to my normal doctor as soon as i get home, but that wont be until next monday/tuesday.

Any ideas on why i suddenly had trouble swallowing? Any suggestions for home remedies for the nausea? It's hard for me to swallow anything, including liquids, so anything would help.

I mainly get the nausea in the early morning and it lasts for a few hours. I am not pregnant (just had period, on the pill, no bf, etc).

I ave IBS and GERD and take Prevacid.

Afraid to throw up, hate it. Anything to prevent it and cure nausea will help!

I'm getting to a doctor this friday. Got in early. I can eat small meals during the day (usually only cereals, bagels/bread, noodles) but only sip water/flat soda at night.

Could the nausea i experience in the morning be caused by hunger? I try not to eat before bed, and noticed tonight that i woke up with the nausea at around three. Every so often my stomach would grumble.

I've done the barium tests before i was diagnosed with IBS and i can say right now that the way i've been feeling i wont be able to swallow it at all should they want me to do that. I could barely swallow more than a few ounces of it last time even with it mixed with chocolate syrup.

I guess i'll have an idea in a few days. I'm hoping it's a virus coupled with stress of final exams and my parents finding out about my grades.

I have had a swallowing problem my wholr life and doctors say it is a sign of stress. I can't swallow pills, I can only take sips of my drink I am always afraid I am going to choke on my food...so I can't really help there BUT the nausea can be easily taken care of with drinking 1-2 cups of peppermint tea by traditional medicinals or whatever brand just make sure it is made with real peppermint otherwise it will be filled with sugar and make your stomach really upset. Peppermint is good for nausea and helps your digest. I always have a cup after a big meal and anytime I feel sick I drink 2 cups of it and I feel like a new person. I hope this helps.

I had similar trouble in college. One day I took a sip of a soda and it felt like my throat just closed up on me. I immediately started feeling sick. This was the beginning of a long bout with an eating disorder brought on by stress.

Chewing gum may help the nausea, too, and it won't require too big a time commitment. But I would examine stress as a possible cause. At the time, it wasn't as if I was losing my mind and under pressure, so it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Are you eating fairly normally now? Or are you eating very little? If you're eating very little, get yourself to an off campus doctor fast. Nip this crap in the bud. I didn't and ended up taking an entire year off to deal with the aftermath.

Good luck!

Ginger is also a good treatment for nausea. If you can, drink a few ounces of ginger ale. It really works well.

As for your swallowing trouble, I can't say. You need to see your own doctor...an endoscopy may be done to examine your esophagus and stomach to see if there is any damage. A change in medication might be in order. I had GERD once and I took Axid for 6 months. I have not had any problems since.

You could be having hyper acidity problem. Also you indicate that you do not take breakfast. Supper to the next meal is too long period and could lead to severe acidity. You can take antacid or Ranitidine tablets. This could reduce the nausea. Once nausea stops you could swallow the food.

Anyway visist a doctor and carry out a check up to find the correct problem.

I can only speak from my experience. My doctor has said that because of having a hiatal hernia is causing my issues of not being able to swallow. He had a swallowing test done...I had to drink a nasty chalk like liquid called barium for them to see me swallowing.

I can tell you also that even though I hate to throw up as well. But I've done so and have been able to eat or drink afterwards.

Hope this helps

not even going to try to answer why you had the problem because there's too many questions i would have to ask ;) but as far as the nausea goes: chew mint gum; sip on mint tea, ginger tea, just smelling mint or ginger should help too. you could ask for a prescription for phenergan (works wonders for me). i have acid reflux too but haven't seen a GI dr for it - just fam dr - ask about nexium for that, it works wonders - helps with nausea from the acid too. i'm sure you already know this from dealing with your stomach but try adding an extra pillow so your head isn't so low on the bed - the nausea might be from your gerd being aggrevated by something and that should help with it too, if it is. good luck!

It could be food poisoning or allergies either one. I'm a bit surprised your campus doctor didn't suspect that.

Try sipping crushed ice and coke or ginger ale. Or drink tea with ginger in it: That's great for tummy troubles.

Meanwhile, don't eat the pizza again.

Good luck.

Laryngospasms. From GERD. Get them all the time. Watch what you eat and don't eat late at night. Perhaps something better like losec or Nexium may help

make a syrup from sweet corn syrup, and add a little water to thin it out.

the sweetness sounds gross but will help the nausea. You can buy over the counter Emetrol, but its basically teh same as the syrup.
