today is going to be a family relative's birthday, and we're going to have ice cream cake. i'm at a normal weight, but i don't like eating fattening and sweet things, but i don't want to ruin the atmosphere by sitting there. i know ice cream isn't healthy, which is why i don't want to eat it, but i think people are going to think i'm weird. i really don't want to eat the cake. any ideas how i can avoid this?

There is nothing wrong with just saying, "Thank you, but I don't really care for any right now."

Or, you can try the old "Gosh, I forgot and ate right before I came to the party and I'm so stuffed I might make myself sick."

Try and stick to 70grammes of fat per day, maximum.
You can pay yourself back for this little treat by avoiding something else like peanut butter or full fat milk or chips, but really as a one-off you can afford to enjoy the meal and make your family feel appreciated.

As to sweet things, if you feel you are on a sugar high and starting to feel rough then after the party go home and eat okra or onions - both lower your blood sugar levels.

Can't you just ask for a tiny piece? That way you can blame your diet but still leave your relatives thinking you loved the food.

A little ice cream won't hurt anyone...it's overeating it, that will harm you...just so nobody will pay attention to you not wanting the ice cream, you should be casual and accept the ice cream...just eat it as little as you can without anybody feeling suspicious of you...

1. Take a piece of cake onto a plate. Rave about how good it looks, twist your fork around in it to soften it--if anyone asks--walk slowly to a corner chair. Let people get engrossed in convo. Quickly jump into the john and dump it.

2. Take a bite and yell!!! bloody murder, "Oh, gosh, I totally forgot I have to take care of this cavity. So, so sorry. And it looked so good, too! I'm so disappointed. Sorry, Aunt blah de blah!"

SAVORY HERBED CHEESECAKE This is an appetizer, you serve it with crackers and wine. I assume he would enjoy this as prelude to a home cooked meal...maybe a nice steak with fresh mushrooms?? Regardless, you can put candles on the top of this and 'decorate' it for his birthday, blow out the candles, open his present, and eat dinner!! Hope this helps. INGREDIENTS: Crust: 3/4 cup bread crumbs 1 Tablespoon shelled pistachio nuts 3 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1/4 teaspoon dried basil 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano . Cheesecake: 16 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature 1/4 cup feta cheese, at room temperature and crumbled 1/4 cup Gorgonzola cheese, at room temperature and crumbled 1/2 cup fresh-grated Parmesan cheese 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon white pepper 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 egg 1-1/2 cups heavy whipping cream 1 Tablespoon chives PREPARATION: Preheat oven to 325 F. To make the crust: Place bread crumbs, pistachios, olive oil, basil, thyme, and oregano in a food processor fitted with the metal blade. To make the cheesecake: Whip cream cheese until soft. Add feta, Gorgonzola, Parmesan, salt, pepper, mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce, egg, and heavy cream. Beat on low speed until combined. Pour into crust. Sprinkle chives evenly over the top. Bake cheesecake about 45 minutes, until lightly browned on top and no longer jiggly in the center. Let cool to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Let sit at room temperature 15 minutes before serving. Cut into wedges and place on a serving platter surrounded with herbed crackers and toasted Italian bread rounds. Yield: 18 servings

I'm sure a little slice won't hurt you. Just eat light before and after for a day or two for damage control.
The purpose of indulgences such as these are to enjoy them on the occasional special occasion-----so ENJOY!!!

Many of us will take the tiniest piece the hostess will allow us to receive, eat as little as possible , draw as little attention to the leftover in the plate and treat the entire matter as if it had no importance whatsoever.
The trick is to not draw attention.

Take a tiny piece and pretend you're eating it, then when nobody is looking, throw it in the trash. Seriously, that way works the best and nobody asks you any questions.

Ask for a very very small piece on account of your lactose restricted diet while they sort out the problem with your bad finger nails ~ something.
