Wait until the micro is done beeping. That gives the radiation time to stop doing their job.

HAHAHAA. That's like hiding under a desk to keep safe from an atomic bombing.
Dude, if you think that microwaves emit dangerous radiation, then your food was cooked using radiation. You can wait a thousand years to open the door, but guess what you're eating?

You can open the oven straight away, but be careful with the food as it can be really hot. Also, some things should be left to sit for a couple of minutes after cooking, but it doesnt really matter if you leave it in the oven or not, or if you open the oven door.

You can open it any time you like even during cooking, tho some foods will need to be allowed to stand for a few minutes in order to finish the cooking process. It depends on the food! Though it could stand out of the microwave oven if necessary. You would need to consult your cookery book to find what needs standing time.

The radiation in the microwave is directed towards the center (where the food should be), as long as theres something somewhere in the microwave to absorb it should be safe to open immediatly once stopped. Modern microwaves are also required to have two safety mechanisms to stop them incase you open it while in operation although you aren't supposed to do that.

PS. when the microwave radiation makes contact with food or liquid they are then converted to heat and thus harmless except that you can still burn yourself.

possibly 2 minutes as that is what is suggested on frozen tv dinners, however, I don't wait no matter what I fix in the mw.
I have been doing that for years and have no idea why they add the 2 minutes before removing after it has been cooked the required instruction time. And the manufacturers don't tell why the 2 minutes either.

Next time: Do you have a crock pot? If so, sometime try this: Cut the slab of ribs to fit into your crock pot; Wrap each cut piece in foil after you lightly salt and pepper each piece; Stand the ribs in an up position, where the meat faces the side of the crock pot (crock pots do not heat on the bottom, only on the sides); Plug in your crock pot (this is often missed); Put lid on crock pot; Set on low for 8 hours. (or set on high for 4 hours) They will be very tender. Warm your BBQ sauce and pour over your cooked ribs. I don't care for BBQ sauce, so I do not add anything on mine.
