Is there realy a possibility that somebody can monitor what I'm doing in my computer? Say, If I'm chatting, can my boss detect it through his computer? If yes, what are the softwares they use to enable them to do so?

They have administrative rights over your work computer.

yes, they can even monitor your activities in real time. Any remote administrator software can be used to monitor activites, and keyloggers could be used to monitor keystrokes. You even have open ports welcoming some cyberintruder to monitor, track, control your computer and steal personal files.

Lots of employers monitor their employees at some level even hackers can watch every keystroke you make

yes, sure he can do do it
there is special software that takes screen shots every couple of seconds, so whoever monitors you can see exactly what you do
with similar software they can also find out your passwords and other confidential information
