No. Religion is more of a cure for the sickness of sin.
Most religions are human beings properly sensing that they are spiritual beings and trying to connect with the transcendent (God).
Judaism and Christianity is God reaching out to humans in love to bring them back to Him (or Her) where we belong and human beings responding to that love.
With love in Christ.

A virus, no, no it's survived to long to be a virus. I think it was Jesse "the body" Ventura who said "religion is a crutch for the weak minded". And I think he nailed it. People, humans of any race, society, or social class don't want to believe that this is it. It gives them hope where generally their wasn't before. Don't get me wrong, my father is Jewish, my mother catholic, and I was raised with a choice. I am an Atheist, which most people look down on. But that doesn't bother me. If people need to believe in a higher power to get up every day, that's fine. I don't judge people for their beliefs, yet most of the religious groups that preach tolerance mean tolerance within their own community, not the tolerance of others. Religion isn't a virus, now humanity on the other hand...

Unfortunately, in many cases "Yes". For example, the use by people of the evil concept of "sin" to justify their religions.
The very concept of "sin" implies a divine judgment, a taboo, forces trying to tempt you and stop you and a church organization tasked with umpiring the battle.
No wonder, the concept of sin itself has been proven again and again to be a central cause of evil. That if the concept was banned as a crime against humanity, much evil in the world would also cease to exist.
In theory, most religions are human beings properly sensing that they are spiritual beings and trying to connect with a spiritual force.
However, this is certainly not the case with Christianity and in particular Catholicism.
Jesus founded the Nazarenes:

Paul of Tarsus founded Christianity as a parasite to consume the teachings of Jesus, subvert its followers and protect the Sadducee High Priests.
See:

No other religion in history other than christianity has murdered people in the name of "Love".

We don't need it. We choose to love God. Its a wonderful thing. Words cannot describe how I feel when God answers my prayers. When the Holy spirit directs my thoughts. I am sorry you are not experiencing my joy. I am sorry you have experienced so many phony Christians. Not its not a virus. Its a love story.
