I'll try not to be a pretentious prick and actually answer your question. I assume you're referring to a jet-propelled aircraft as opposed to one with a propeller.

Jets tend to move faster, and can fly at much higher altitudes than conventional prop planes. Jet propulsion works better than prop-planes at higher altitudes because, rather than taking ambient air and moving it really fast as a propeller would, it takes the air and compresses and heats it while blowing it out. The air isn't dense enough for a regular propeller to do the job.

Prop-planes have their pros as well. They're better for flying in low altitudes and are generally cheaper. It's all about what kind of flying needs to be done.

The most distinct difference is that the plane is a vehicle and the jet is a powerplant. The jet may or maynot power an airplane and the airplane may or maynot use a jet engine as its source of thrust.

Now when those who are in aviation speak of jets, they imply jet aircrafts. Did you want to ask what is the difference between a propeller aircraft and a jet aircraft?

um a jet is a plane. A plane is a powered aircraft that flys through the air. A jet uses jet engines (turbine engines) to propel itself through the air.

Prop planes are the planes with props (propellors) to propel themselves through the air.

A plane is a FIXED WING AIRCRAFT regardless of it's powerplant ie prop or jet. A jet when used to reference an aircraft is the avrage layman's way of saying that it's not a prop powered plane but a jet powered one.

"Plane" is a generic term that covers any conventional fixed-wing heavier than air craft.. All jets are planes, but not all planes are jets.
