I have been working really hard to join the Navy. I have lost 63 pounds so far, and have about 15 more to do. I know, that is a lot of weight and it's a little embarrassing. Anyway, how did you keep going when discouraged? Once you were able to enlist how was basic training for you? Any tips for success would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not yet... but after this pregnancy is done, I'll need to get to work on losing about 100 lbs if I want to go back in before the age limit... not saying I *am* going back in... it will be a family decision, but I'm going to get to work on it so I at least have the option.

I dind't have to lose weight, but I was all kinds of out of shape when I joined the army. Basic was hard, but it's not as hard physically in the navy. I don't know from personal experience, but I've asked people I know who have been through navy and army basic.

Your weight isn't really an issue. What matters is your bodyfat content. Tell the recruiter that you want to be taped. He'll know what you mean. The navy recruiters just don't want to do that because it's more work for them and the navy doesn't need people like the army does.

I'm greatly impressed. You're doing good! Keep it up. I knew a young man who lost about 20 pounds to join the army. It wasn't easy, but he did. Basic was hard too, but he eventually got thru it. He did serve some time in Iraq and returned home safe and sound. There was one close call. He learned some valuable skills and was discharged, honorably. He has a well paying job now and a good credit rating.
When the going seemed discouraging, he turned to God........and God was there for him.

Yes! I was always in good shape but a few years back I just really let myself go (no excuses, but after I accepted Jesus I really just had trouble dealing with all the sin I had committed. I was delighted to be saved, but unable to cope for a great while). I have lost 75 pounds but need to lose about 10 more.
God bless you friend. Just keep God in everything and you will be ok. If you want you can email me.

Your motivation, is obviously to get in the Navy....but one of the things you will learn once you get in....pride for yourself. That's what should keep you going and not getting discouraged....pride in yourself. Just keep a positive attitude and know that thousands of recruits have made it before you....(and thank the heavens that you are not going to a REAL basic training like the Army or Marine Corps...heh)

Good luck. Lose it fast because once in boot camp, it will stay off. Oh how good a Pepsi was after 12 weeks...

I congratulate you on your efforts.

Actually, I was only 180 when I joined... I gained 12 pounds during Boot in Orlando, then gained another 6 pounds during Aircrew and SAR Schools in Pensacola.

Then again... on graduation from SAR, my body-fat was 3%... I was nothing but thighs and chest.

GOOD LUCK and Welcome Aboard !!
