-Ford Mustangs have a much larger following and therefore a lot more aftermarket accessories and performance parts.
NOTE: A Mustang is a coupe, so if you have kids, get the Charger. If there are no kids...the Mustang is the clear choice.
-The resale value of the Mustang GT is very good.
-I owned a '99 GT and loved it. I added a supercharger and got spectacular acceleration.
There will be kits that mimic the net GT500KR (AWESOME!)

You won't be disappointed if you choose the Charger. The Charger R/T has the Hemi and, like someone else said, if you have kids it has 4 doors. You can also go a step up and get a Daytona R/T. It's got 10 more horsepower than the base R/T and is incredibly beautiful and comfortable. Or you can get the SRT 8 and be envied by everyone you know. Those things are monsters.

I don't know about Mustangs though. I agree with whoever said that you see them everywhere so it may not feel as special as a Daytona R/T would. I rode in a Mustang last year and all I can say was that it was very uncomfortable. Although, it was a rental so that may have been a factor. I will say this about Mustangs though, I really like the retro look of the new ones. It is a sharp car, but I'd still (and did) go with a Charger.

Also, if you like the retro look of the Mustang then I'd suggest waiting for the new Challengers to come out in '08/'09. If the final version looks anything like the concept car it's going to be a great car.

As for the person that said the Chargers aren't real Chargers, it has 4 doors but it definitely makes up for it. The new Chargers really are fantastic cars and the Hemi is plenty powerful.

In the end, the choice really is yours. Read up on the cars, test drive them and form your decision from that. Happy shopping.

I'd buy the Charger Hemi. Why? Depending on your age, insurance could be cheaper. I know someone that owns a Mustang GT and he pays 150.00 per month on insurance. He's around 40 to 45 yrs of age. Doesn't even have a bad driving record. My cousin has a Charger with a Hemi and he pays 300.00 every six months and he does have a bad driving record. He is 34.
That's just one item though. The Hemi does have one feature that the GT doesn't. When you are driving in cruising mode, it is only operating 4 cylinders and the other 4 are lying dormant until you need them. This means, better mileage and long trips between the pumps. Also, having 4 doors are a great plus. But, you decide what you want. Because you are the one that has to live with your decision.

It depends on which R/T you had, and what Mustang you had. Considering the Charger had 3 engine options, and the mustang GT had at least twice that, there's a myriad of combinations that could produce a winning dodge and a losing ford, or a few that would produce the opposite. You could get any Mustang with the GT package as long as it had a 351ci engine or larger. So, that means, in 1969, you could have a mustang GT with: 2bbl 351W 250hp@4600rpm 355ft-lb@2600rpm 4bbl 351W 290hp@4800rpm 385ft-lb@3200rpm 390ci 4bbl 320hp@4800rpm 427ft-lb@3200rpm 428CJ 4bbl 335hp@5200rpm 440ft-lb@3400rpm Boss 429 375hp@5200rpm 450hp@3400rpm By comparison, the 1969 Charger R/T was only available with big blocks. The options were: 440 4bbl V8 375hp@4600rpm 480ft-lb@3200rpm 426 hemi V8 425hp@5000rpm 490ft-lb@4000rpm Clearly the Charger has the power advantage, with the lowest level engine in the R/T model having the same HP and more torque than the top of the line mustang engine, but it also had a bit more weight to move around. That being said, the Charger would just about win any race, no matter which version of mustang it was. I had thought that the 383 V8 was the standard R/T engine, with 335hp, and it very well could be (my source could be wrong, but I don't know for sure), in which case the mustang could win a couple, but you would have to have one of the big CJ/SCJ engines to do it.

Have you looked at the gas prices lately? Try getting something economical. Like a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, etc.

If I had to choose between the 2 though I'd definitly get the Mustang. That new Dodge Charger isn't a charger, its a family sedan, and the Dodge Magnum is the station wagon version of the that so called Charger. The original Chargers were only 2 door, and that Hemi isn't near as big as the original Hemi and don't have any power. Plus the original chargers didn't have a hemi.

thats quite a jump you made between a mustang gt and a carger hemi. the ford puts out almost half the power as the hemi, but it weighs quite a bit less, and thats probably the main swaying point in this argument. if ur looking for off the line grunt, the charger is the way to go, because as you probably know, dodge is known for its obsession with torque. fords mustang though, is no slouch down the quarter mile, and with a power to weight ratio that puts the carger to shame, it would probably win in a heads up race. plus the fact stated earlier that the mustang is so light, andling is automatically better with the mustang. with this in mind, also realize that the carger comes factory with an automatic instead of a 5 speed. all in all, id choose neither. just save your money till the fall of 2008 and buy a challenger. ill put $2500 down that the callenger will destroy the mustang and camaro. thats my 2 cents worth. take it to the bank

Dodge Charger with Hemi. I bought the "Top Banana" last year and I love it. It will take the Mustang any day.

I own a 300 c and have never gotten as many compliments on any car I've owned and have still heard more than a few people say they like the look of the charger over the 300 I've never heard someone say theyed rather have the mustang.I say go charger and if you look back on your decision it will because of the mustang in your rare view mirror slowly falling back into the lost race category.

Only you can answer that question. I will say that although I am a big classic mopar fan, I personally own a 1985 Mustang GT convertible I bought for a project and I absolutely love. Many people have offered to buy it, but I intend on passing it down to my now 4 year old son, which pisses off his 11 year old sister who wants it!
