I have already checked out renting a cargo van but these are not available from enterprise, u-haul, etc. for one way moves. Are minivans capable of holding full sized mattresses plus a few extra suitcases and boxes? Any other creative ideas? Please help!

Pods

Pack Rat

Sam

they are storage units that they drop off at your place, you pack it up, then they move it to your destination, and drop it off and you unpack it, then call them to pick it up.

I've personally dealt with Pack Rat and loved it. My fiance's parents dealt with Pods and they liked it. "Sam" is a new company, so I don't have anything to say about them.

Purchase a 2 mil thick plastic mattress bag at any location that specializes in selling boxes. Many storage facilities also sell boxes and probably mattress bags.

Beat the living crap (literally) out of the mattress with baseball bat, hockey stick, 2x4, 9-iron golf club, tennis racket, big stick, branch limb, or whatever that is readily available.

Insert mattress into bag and throw it onto the roof of your minivan, lash it down, stow other household belongings into the space you just saved inside the minivan.

Once on new location, beat the crap out of it again, vacuum it outdoors if possible, let the sunshine perform its natural cleansing abilities by allowing the sun to shine on the top and bottom for as long as possible, and then gently mist all surfaces of the mattress, box spring, and pillows with an all natural enzyme cleaner. If the surfaces are not "dry to the touch" w/in 5 minutes, you have misted too heavily.

Put your pillows into a large Hefty brand Lawn and Leaf bag and insert your vacuum cleaner crevice tool into the bag, seal off the opening of the bag around the vacuum hose and suck all the air out of the bag (and pillow). Let the pillow resume its shape inside the bag and repeat. This will suck a bunch of crap (again, literally) out of your pillows. You can do the same if you have one of those egg crate looking foam pads on your mattress.

Its been proven that sleeping on hygienic mattresses is very important to your Health and Wellness!

If the Salvation military has a save on your city, verify that out. a number of them have mattresses that have been donated (they have been wiped clean AND DISINFECTED), and you're able to get them low-value.
