I will be planning a trip to Las Vegas for the Thanksgiving Day weekend. Where would be the best place to stay on the strip over the 4 day holiday weekend, I would prefer something like the Riviera or Circus Circus. Did anybody stay at these less expensive places last Thankgiving and got a great deal. Please let me know cause I want to use most of my money for entertainment. Thanks

Generally, the more north you go on the Strip, the cheaper the rates.

The two farthest north Strip casinos are the Stratosphere and the Sahara. The Strat usually has good deals ( $80/ night for that weekend). But it's kind of in a shady part of Vegas and even though technically it's on the Strip, it'll take you 15 minutes (weekend traffic) to get to the meat of the Strip (Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, etc). The Sahara ($107/night) is nice, since they've remodeled years ago, but it's still pretty north and suffers from the same travelling issue as the Strat.

For about a third less you can stay Downtown (most of those hotels range from $55 to $105/night). And the rooms tend to be a little more shabby than on the Strip.

A little off Strip is the Orleans ($111/ night). It's about 5 minutes west of the Strip but every time I've stayed there, I really enjoyed it. The standard room has a little sitting area with a couch which is nice. If you like poker, it has one of the larger poker rooms in Las Vegas.

I took a little time to look up the rates for that upcoming weekend. Some of those rates will only last until midnight tonight. When I book Vegas, the two places I have booked through is Expedia and Tripres.com. My friend gave me a bit of advice that I'll be sure to use from now on. He told me that hotels will honor any online rate. So rather than book through an online site, call up the hotel with the web listed rate, and have them book it. When you book through the hotel, you can cancel the reservation without penalty, whereas booking online if you cancel you may have to pay a penalty or the whole amount of the reservation. I haven't tried it, but my buddy swears by it.

Good Luck and I hope this helped.

One of the busiest weekends in Vegas. Do not expect much of a discount for a hotel on the strip. Riviera is nicer than Circus Circus. I usually stay at the Mirage.

If you are a member of AAA or AARP, check with them for discounts. If you are an active duty on leave, make sure you ask. During the Gulf War the hotels in Vegas gave some really sweat deals for troops coming home.

If budget is tight, there are nice casinos off the strip also, within walking distance. The Hilton is kind of fun if you are a Klingon or Ferengi.

Circus Circus is a dump. If you're trying to save a few bucks, go downtown. But think about this: if you're going to gamble at one of the swankier casinos, you'd be better off staying there than paying $15 for cab rides back and forth. Plus, before you check out, go to guest services. They're usually comp part of your stay or your food tab if you gambled quite a bit.

Stay at the Tuscany Suites. It is not on the strip but it is right behind Bally's so it is actually better situated for the action of the strip than Circus Circus.

Just go on web sites ..Travelocity,etc...And you will come up with something!! I never liked Circus..Their buffet sucks!! You might try the Frontier if they haven't imploded it!! The new tower isn't bad!! Not the Original!! Gilley's is always fun there!!! Sahara ..You can always find a deal...!! I have stayed at Excalibur and not too expensive!!!
