It's alcohol. I can't remember if it breaks down the outside of the bacteria or just causes it to burst like a baloon.

I'm pretty sure it's alcohol, but an easy way to check is to get the bottle of mouthwash and look at the "active" ingredients! ((LMAO to be a smarty pants, i didn't know mouthwash had bacteria in it!!! =])

HELLO LUCERO,
WHAT MAKES THE MOUTHWASH KILL THE BACTERIA IS PREDOMINANTLY THE ALCOHOL CONTENT, AS WELL AS THE OTHER ANTI-BACTERIAL INGREDIENTS SUCH AS ESSENTIAL OILS IN LISTERINE.
OTHER NON-ALCOHOL MOUTHWASHES ALSO UTILIZE ANTI-BACTERIAL ACTIVE INGREDIENTS.

IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE, THIS IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
MOUTH WASH CONTAINS ALCOHOL, WHICH IS SOMEWHAT BAD FOR YOU. IT IS A INTERMEDIATE LEVEL DISINFECTANT, SO DON'T SWALLOW IT BECAUSE YOU CAN DO MAJOR DAMAGE, AND YOU WOULD BE SWALLOW DEAD BACTERIA.
ALSO MOUTHWASH CAUSES DRY MOUTH DISEASE!!!

Mouthwash's four active ingredients (eucalyptol, menthol, methyl salicylate, thymol) are all toxic.
