been looking for almost 6 months now.

i even applied at walmart and at the newspaper packing papers, but have not gotten anything.

how do i get one? i never in my wildest dreams thought it would be this hard to get a job after i got out of the military.

i got a job before but had to quit because of cancer, now after treatment they won't hire me again, another job i applied for i am not medically cleared to do because of blood tests i have to take.

radioshack told me i was over qualified for a sales position there and wouldn't hire me.

what to do?

i looked and scanned all the companies and job websites, i have sent probably over 100 resumes out. i feel i am stuck with no way out no matter how hard i try.

You need to apply in person, the internet isn't working for you. Also, contact Goodwill Industries. You may qualify to find work through them.

You need to also dumb down your resume a bit. I know that sounds awful, but if Radio Shack says you are overqualified. They are scared you will get bored and leave first chance you get. I know that is not the case, but that's how hiring managers think.

Call every old manager you have ever reported to and ask them to refer you to any job with their company.

One more thing, apply to be a recruiter. Most firms will consider anyone that has a high energy level and a need to succeed. You need to be polished, well spoken and look them in the eye. Then pester the owner of the branch. Should work.

Hey, if you really want to work, you can find a job. If the employers aren't hiring you because you had cancer, that's discrimination, and should not be tolerated.

I've recently taken a job I hate at a local hotel because I can't afford the gas to drive into the city 20 miles away. I am overqualified for the position but must have an income, even though it's several dollars an hour less than what I should be making.

Having been in the military, there may be some type of assistance for you available from them. I don't know, just a guess. Wasn't that training you could take anywhere? Go to some Veterans associations and places like that. They may have an idea. There may even be someone there that owns a business that would give you a job because you served.

Good luck.

Depending on where you are, you might try temporary services like Manpower or Office Temps. It's a paycheck and sometimes these positions can lead to permanent employment. And if it doesn't lead to a job at the place you're working it will give you something for your work history.

In the meantime you might also look at volunteering at someplace that interests you. Volunteering can put you in touch with people who know people who have jobs; it could get you noticed at the place you voluneer and they could offer you a job; or it can get you experience in an area that will improve your job skills. For example, you could volunteer to help do computer work for an organization and brush up on your computer skills at the same time.

It could be a problem with your resume. Maybe you should go to a resume building site to fix it up a bit. Also resumes should be updated and altered to accommodate each job that you apply for.

It also helps to write a custom cover letter for each application. Make sure that it is personalized to show that you have knowledge about the company, and have taken the time to create a unique letter for their company.

Of course proof read all of your written work.

Check your references, maybe one is doing more harm then good. Always make sure to ask people to be a reference before you list them as one.

Also talk to your friends and family, they can help you. I heard that about 80% of all jobs are obtained through networking.

Hey I empathize with you. But don't give up. Take courage, 1 company might say no. 2 might say no, 200 might say no...the important thing is that you got to keep on knocking, else doors will not open.
