Yes, why indeed? Funny..... some kid dies, and the lord needed him. Some other kid is badly injured, but lives, and it because the prayers were answered. No wonder there are so many atheists.

God uses people to heal. God uses people to answer prayer a lot- just like the "joke" that was shared- more truth than fiction in that one. My husband has been in the hospital many times for different reasons- and every time I am thankful that the Lord sent a dr. that knows what to do to help him. The power of prayer is not the issue here- the power is not in the prayer itself, but in the Lord we pray too. I always praise God first , however, I always thank the Dr, as well. God uses people in answer to our prayers- and if we are really open to it, He can use us as well.

We have to work in harmony with our prayers. For example, if you pray about getting a better job, you wouldn't just sit around the house waiting for one to fall out of the sky; you would put in applications and resumes and let people know that you are looking for work.

Prayers are powerful but that doesn't mean that God wants us to be lazy. Yes, the Bible encourages us to keep asking for the things that we want and need; there still must be action on our part to receive them. (Matthew 7:7-11; Proverbs 6:6, 9-11;21:25, 26)

God can work through doctors too. As a health care worker myself I know the power of prayer, but also think that God has given knowledge to use medical cures through medicine.

You sound bitter in your questioning...

The bible even tells us that we need to do things for ourselves, we can not just sit back and "let life pass us by". When we pray it is a request to God to say "heal me".
Now God could heal me right then, or perhaps a Dr will heal me at which time I of course give them credit. That does not mean I can not also give credit to God, for maybe sending that Dr "my way". The other thing is that I may not be healed, at which time I ask God for the strength to get through it.

Right, why bother to make my bed, it's only going to get messed up tonight. Why bother to eat, I'm only gonna sit and excrete ( wow, food is just preprocessed crap!). Why bother, I agree...whatever one does or doesn't do, it's all God's will.

Doctors don't heal, they treat...there is no $$$$ in curing people.

Doctors have to eat too.
Most times, miracle healing is verified by the doctor who diagnosed the problem. Sometimes they need convincing too, don't you think?

This question reminds me of a joke I've heard:

A guy is caught in a flood, and the water is slowly rising devouring his house and all he owns.

The water gets up to his knees and a couple other people ride by in a canoe. They offer to help him but he says, "No, I have faith that God will save me - I do not need your help."

The water continues to rise to his neck and some people come by in a large rescue boat and ask him to hop on board and he says, "No, I have faith that God will save me - I do not need your help."

The water keeps rising and to seek refuge the guy stands on the top on the roof of his house. A helicopter comes by and the people offer him a ride to safety. Once again he states "No, I have faith the God will save me - I do not need your help."

The water keeps rising and the man eventually drowns, dies, and goes to heaven.
In heaven he asks God, "Why didn't you save me?"
And God says, "What do you mean? I sent you canoe, a boat and a helicopter?!"

Some religions don't go to a doctor for that specific purpose. They think if they need to be healed, god will heal them.
