I have noticed the Qur'an mentions that prophets were sent to all people... Is there any mention of prophets not found in the Torah?

I've been a member of several churches that are very mission oriented and I've heard missionaries talk of prophets in other countries. Prophet is a very dangerous profession. It seems that only the false ones are celebrated. I've heard of several American, Australian, African, Indonesian, East Indian/Pakistani.....on and on.
Prophets have very much spiritual authority and power and are hated, sought out and killed (if caught) by those they prophesy against. That's the way it was in the Biblical times too.

Not all the prophets are from the Middle East. St. Seraphim of Sarov, for instance, was a Russian ascetic who acted very much like a prophet :).
