So many times I will read here that some particular atrocity from the Bible is brought up for Christians to defend, which they can't because the atrocity is really awful, and you go and say oh, that doesn't count because it is from the OT. ISN'T THE OT STILL YOUR BIBLE?

It doesn't matter what accusations you raise, Christians will defend the bible fervently and find a million rationalizations. The old testament is really atrocious and when i first read it i thought "wow nobody can defend this " well I was pretty surprised by the rationalizations that some people found for sum of the most sadistic acts I've ever read .You have to understand that Christians believe that the bible is God's word and its creation was guided by his hands , so try as you may you cannot convince them otherwise.

Yes the OT is part of the bible, it is a record of things that transpired then.
What people are trying to say is that God sent Jesus to make things new, that no longer were the laws and sacrifices etc. the same or required as in the OT.
Things in the society of that time were very different then now, punishments were harsh and women were viewed more as objects.
Jesus came and changed things, and so no people do not often feel a need to defend the things that happened in the OT.

Yes, it is still in their bible. Jesus said think not I am come to do away with the law but to fulfill it. Does that mean that the law is done away? That is a generally accepted belief among many, but it just ain't so Magee. All laws come from God. Some come directly from God and some came from God through Moses. It is even referred to as the Law of Moses. Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses. Hence, the Law of Moses is done away. The Law of God, however, is not. From that point one can say that what the law of Moses did not bring, the law of Moses cannot take away.I would like to expound exegetically concerning this matter, alas I cannot. I have been in exile for the last two years in MO. due to Katrina. I am leaving next month for the shores of the old Pontchartrain and have been sending my belongings down piecemeal. All of my books have already gone and I am working from memory. I will see what I can do from the computer, but I am of the book, not the computer, generation. To sum up this epistle, part of the old testament applies and part does not. I have explained how one may determine which is which. If you are really interested, send me a note to my profile and I will get back to you in June or July. If I have not been stoned to death before then.

Have you ever read the Bible?

I didn't think so...

The Old Testament was about God and what He did to create Earth as well as the first people who lived here. It gave 'rules' for that day and age.

The New Testament was about Jesus and what He said. The reason why Jesus wasn't accepted by many was because he did change many 'rules' that God set in the OT because He was told to.

For example--in the Old Testament it said that we should give animal sacrifices. In the New Testament God told Jesus to let us know that had changed--we were now to ask forgiveness for our sins. Plus, Jesus died on the cross to forgive us of our sins so that was no longer necessary.

Another example--in the Old Testament God didn't clarify the 'rules.' When Jesus came He set out the Commandments which went deeper in. Just one for example--"Do not convent you neighbors wife." Jesus said that even thinking about cheating on your spouse was wrong. "An eye for an eye." Jesus said to turn your other cheek.

The reason why the 'rules' changed and the beliefs changed was because of Christ. He was sent by God to give spirt back to the people. He was sent to forgive us of our sins through His sacrifice. Therefore, things had to change. The New Testament is what make Christians believe in Christ and His teachings. Without the New Testament there would be no Christians--only Jewish people.

In order to understand the Bible and make a logical argument you must read it!

The old testament is the foundation for the new testament. It shows that humans have sinned and can never attain Christ consciousness or eternal life. The new testament, the "gospels", literally a word from old English meaning the good spells (speak), brings us the good news of the son of the woman who comes to crush the head of the snake who stole from our tribe of man its connection to the divine.
When any knee jerk unenlightened baptized Christian tries to quote a few old testament passages at me to denigrate a marginalized group I open my Bible to any of the Laws of Moses in Leviticus and ask them if they are in mourning if they have cut their hair etc.

When the werewolf of Jesus encounters puppies who do not know their history or basic etiquette she gives them gentle but FIRM reminders. What is untrue falters and fades unto nothing when in presence of true authority. Just remember that some of these folks do not have the intellectual capacity for serious dissection of scripture and are relying on faulty human interpretations and honestly think they are saving your soul. If you are following the truth which the God of all gods has instilled in you before you entered this veil of tears do not concern yourself with petty religious squabbles and let your actions speak for you.

The old testament as always referring to the children of Israel which is also the children of Abraham. God was very specific to the Nation of Israel because of the promised He had made with Abraham. The laws and commandments written there was for the children of Israel.
When Lord Jesus born, He magnified the law of Moses, which the Gentile ( non-jews) are now included in the promised that God had made with Abraham. God in OT had demostrate His power and control of everything, even death and destruction of anyone who comes His way.
While in New Testament, He had demonstrate His love and mercy for those who seek for it.
God has the total control of everything, who lives or who dies. That is why we had no right to question His power and authority, only to submit to the sole power of the one who has no beginning and no end.

You have to understand this first.

The New testament is a new covenant in which the laws of the Old Testament have been thrown out.

Read the New testament and you will understand. This is why it is called THE NEW testament. The old one is the old covenant. Christians usually refer to it (old testament) to teach people about how to deal with problems in their everyday life and for stories that relate to how they should deal with certain things.

But the new testament tells of the new covenant that was created with the whole world because of the death of Jesus Christ. No longer are we bound under the law of the old testament because Jesus came and died for our sins. But we should confess that Jesus is Lord and we should follow his ways.

We have all broken the law of the Old Testament therefore we all die. But after Jesus sacrficed himself for our sins the old law was thrown out. Hope you understand. Read the new testament and you will understand. I use to have so many questions but people kept telling me to read the new testament first, so that is what i am doing and my questions have been getting answered by just reading.

The biggest problem in the church today is Bible illiteracy.

.. im sorry to say but it looks like a small majority actually answered as usual because you ask about things that you dont understand they can not seem to come up with an answer that does not make it sound like you are "bashing" on them. i think im tired of trying to actually understand christianity..why bother anymore! if you dont no what they no your suddenly "bashing" their religion. the few that actually do answer are to rare amongst the rest. to those who did actually answer thank you for being you, you are among the true christians, and even though i am not christian i respect you more then the fundies!

these actions are one of the biggest reason's that i am not a christian.. i like to learn as well as teach.
Blessed be!

Who are you to come in here and stir up this place? Doing your master bidding no doubt!

For the younger Christians who might stumble in here, rather than for the vile and repulsive spirit possessing the asker, know this:

Wicked and evil angels came down from heaven and took for themselves wives from the daughters of men. And through this unholy and unatural union where the bloodlines of all humanity once tainted. And so Yahuwah comanded His servant Noah to build an ark, that the remaining undefiled 8 people on planet earth who where left, might be saved from the destruction Yahuwah would bring upon them by flood.

After the flood, these wicked and evil demons once again came to earth and took the daughters of men to be their wives, and so it was these that Joshuah and the other spies saw in the land that Yahuwah had promised to the Israelites.

There would be no flood this time, but rather the children of Israel, would wipe the offspring of evil from the face of the land before them. Yahuwah rightly said let none live of the men, of the women, of the children, and in some areas, even of the livestock. For such was the evil in these people that even the animal had been sexualy abused by demons and the sons of demons.

All the strife in Isreal today, is because the Israelites where too filled with compassion for their fellow man, and not fully comprehending the importance of what Yahuwah had told them, took the land without completeing all of what He commanded them.

The coming Kingdom of Yahuwah will not be a democracy, so it does not matter how many say it is wrong to kill what is evil. The Arch Angel Michael and all the host of heaven will come with glory and fire to purge the earth of all evil.

So young followers of Yahushua (Jesus), do not be dismayed by questions such as this, coming from foul and evil minded feinds doing the bidding of their hellbound father haSatan. Know that there are 'atrocities' yet to come. And that she and her kind, along with all the demonic host will be destroyed.

But do not gloat over her demise, but rather pray as I do that she will come to her senses and turn her heart back to Yahushua, who died on a cross to pay the price of her sin, her lack of faith, and he will fill her black, empty and lifeless heart with light and love that can only come from Yahuwah (God)
