I was having stomach problems, so i went to the doc, and he told me im constipated. I've taken milk of magnesia today and i used an enema i dont know how many times. But its taking forever to "loosen up". How long is this going to take?

Try eating dried prunes or drink prune juice on a regular basis.

Here's a thought- try eating your veggies and fruit, and drink lots of water. You are trying to move concrete through the system, and it didn't compact overnight you know. So it's not going to clear up that quickly either. There are lots of ways to encourage movement, prunes, corn, and bran are famous remedies. But you can't just stop eating them when the problem solves itself, you know. You got constipated for a reason, and if you don't sort out the reason and fix it- meaning eat you veggies and fruit, whole grains, and drink plenty of fluids- you are just going to be back in this situation again. Lay off the red meat and white bread, and eat some veggies other than the lettuce that comes on the burger. Go easy on the alcohol as well, as it dehyrdrates you. If you don't get a fix going for good, the next thing in your future is hemorrhoids. That's a pain you really don't want or need. Constipation is the warning, and you need to pay mind to it. And don't be tempted to go the ExLax route. That's a harsh way to solve the problem, and you suffer first from diarrhea and cramping, then you rebound constipate. Although, if you have already used an enema, there is probably not much left in the system to move out. What you may have are the cramps from an irritated system that's been washed, medicated and ill used. Eating right and being patient in the little reading room would probably serve you better in the long run than relying on chemicals to do the job for you.

HELLO,

THIS IS A DIGESTIVE PROBLEM WHERE THE BOWELS ARE ABSORBING MOST OF THE MOISTURE FROM THE FECAL MATTER. ONE FOOL PROOF WAY THAT WORKS VERY WELL AND GIVES RAPID RESULTS FAST.
DRINK 6-8 OUNCES OF PRUNE JUICE. THIS IS FASTER THAN EATING DRIED PRUNES BECAUSE LITTLE WORK IS INVOLVED IN TURNING THE SOLID PRUNES INTO LIQUID FORM --WHICH NEEDS EVEN MORE WATER IN THE FECES. THE PRUNE JUICE IS ALREADY IN LIQUID FORM AND ALSO CONTAINS THE NECESSARY FIBER TO MAKE THE MOVEMENT POSSIBLE.
ONCE YOU ARE REGULAR AGAIN HAVING A SMALL GLASS 4 OUNCES EVERY DAY IS EXCELLENT PREVENTIVE CARE.

The first post is right, Sugar Free candy is actually an effective laxative! Try prune juice, or prunes. Exlax is supposed to work. Drink more liquids and increase your fiber (Metamucil).

There's no way to tell how long it could take. You could try a colonic. Acidophilus may also help.

Could take a day or so. Give it time - or you'll make the situation more uncomfortable.
