I've had people tell me to try the "mayonaise trick" to condition my hair. but i just have a few questions about it.
1. does it leave a greasy residue in your hair?
2. does it matter what brand you use? (cheap or name brand)
3. how long do you leave it in your hair?
4. does it make your hair smell funny? i've heard a couple people say their hair had a funny stench to it for a few days afterwards...

thanks!

I tried this once and could not stand the smell of my hair. I washed it twice and I could still smell it. It made me want to vomit. You would be better off to get a conditioning mask from the drugstore, even if it's a cheap one. They are made specifically for your hair- unlike mayonnaise... Trust me, it's worth it. P.S. Yes, it does make your hair greasy. Unless, of course, you wash your hair a few times with a clarifying shampoo- which undoes whatever the mayonnaise did for it in the first place.

I"ve used it before. It doesn't matter what brand. It is messy which is why I don't like to do it, but when I did do it a few years ago it left my hair really silky. It is all fat (oil) and protein (egg).

Leave it in your hair for as long as you can stand. 30 minutes is usually the max for most people. You put it on, dont bother putting it on the scalp because once you pile your hair up on top of your head and put saran wrap on it you'll have some on your scalp. Plus, your scalp is already oily and that hair is healthy. It is the longer hairs and the ends that need the mayo.

Odds are, shampoo is not enough to get all of the oil out. Maybe if you use shampoo for oily hair. If that does not work, you use a little bit of dishwashing soap. Not anything too harsh either.

Anyway, if you rinse it out well then it won't smell bad.

1. No not if you thoroughly rinse it out and then shampoo your hair

2. I don't think the brand matter, but make sure you use real mayonnaise.

3. Leave in in for 30 to 60 minutes.

4. No. Anyone that has a "funny stench" after, is simply not rinsing their hair throughly and then shampooing it.

I have very thick coarse hair and have conditioned it using mayonnaise at least a half a dozen times. My hair always comes out really shiny, soft and silky.

Oh my, I have not done that for years! There is a reason why!! Yes, it left my hair with a heavy, greasy residue!

I am not sure what brand I used and I think two minutes was too long for my hair!

Yes, my hair did smell different and I did not like the smell. I rinsed and rinsed my hair and it was on there like glue! Smell and all!

I would not ever go through that experience again!

I havent tried it but I do know that mayonaise is fat. So fat is greasy. I think you would only need to leave it in for 5 mins or so. Mayonaise has a smell to it so you will have to wash it out well..which may undo the whole purpose of putting it on in the first place.

I've heard about mayo as a deep conditioner but never used it because of the smell & residue.

Instead of mayo, mash 1/2 of a ripe avocado & apply it to your hair. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes before rinsing off w/ cool water. Avocado has lots of vitamin E and smells better.

1. yes, but you wash your hair more than once to get rid of it
2. no, as long as it's real mayonaise and not some sort of other salad dressing
3. take about 1/2 cup and coat your hair in it, let it set for about 15-30 minutes
4. only if you don't rinse it all out

tried it. worked like a allure, my hair have been given so broken via the solar & sea it advance into in basic terms... undesirable. in any case, how plenty mayo to coach fairly relies upon on the dimensions of your hair. Mine ian't very long, in basic terms shoulder length, so I frequently use just about 0.5 a teaspoon, in any different case it is going to likely be a discomfort to bathe off. And whether this isn't any longer washed off correct, you're left with a greasy head & pungent hair. yea, so in basic terms practice a some, and flow away it for like, say, 30 minutes. Then wash it out like commonly used with your shampoo.
